Black jack Bitumin paint or if you wanted something thicker and nearer tar as was previously mentioned there's black jack trowel Bitumin .

I think your best bet is annual treatment. I know of a couple of old school farmers who liberally slap on a (rather unenvironmentally friendly) mix of old engine oil and creosote every year, and let it run down the posts into the ground. The fences seem to last forever!

If they have not been cut then leave them alone. If they are pressure treated then that provides the seal. I would imagine that the posts may have been kiln dried prior to pressure treating. If the ends have been cut then an annual treatment with creosote (proper stuff, not the type sold in the DIY sheds) will give the best protection.

I use Flexacryl. Which is a bituminous based paint which also has fibreglass type strands in it, it remains flexible which is good for any expansion/contraction etc and is designed as an emergency roof repair paint(although it's so thick you more or less push it around rather than paint it.

Cut a 20 liter container in half, and nail then on the posts. You won't get cheaper.

Just get ploys to cut some cider bottles in half top on one post bottom on another job done.

Use plastic plates and silicon them on ,better than the old tin ones

Cut the tops at an angle dab on some creosote, water will run off?
