Hey guys just looking for some guidance here really.

What are the legal requirements (if any)for working on trees over water?

The company I currently work for have begun quoting for lots of trees on riverbanks and tasked me with finding the ins and outs(well the ups and downs really).

Thanks in advance

Considering falling onto concrete or tarmac would lead to serious injury or death, I generally consider working over water a bonus.

I have worked on jobs where ground staff were required to wear life jackets, but would not entertain one in the tree personally.

ive worn the automatic inflating ones for sailing whilst climbing over water, i generally moan about them but in reality they dont really get in the way that much. not sure wether its totally necessary but id imagine trying to float with all your harness, saw boots trousers etc might prove difficult.

as huck says though one dosent make arrangements for falling from a tree not over water.

intrested to hear other views guidelines etc.

id say the ground staff on the bank would be at a greater risk, so a life ring and some sort of throwline could be a good idea.

just my thoughts, haven't a clue about laws.

When you say working over water, what sort of thing do you mean? Obviously, if you are going to be working over fast flowing or deep water you would need to take different precautions than over a shallow section of still water. I would personally first consider auto-inflate CO2 life jackets in case of anybody going into the water whilst unconscious. :001_smile:
