I'd try comfrey either natural compress or shop bought balm. Worked amazingly on my sprained ankle to the point that so much oxygenated blood went to my ankle my heart raced and I almost fainted! Also see a specialist - for cortisone to work has to injected into the right spot and not randomly squirted in the approximate area.

It works but you need to give it chance, no good going straight back to doing what caused the problem. Doctor told me to rest my arm for a couple of weeks after the elbow treatment.

Had three for tennis elbow - each gave about 3 months relief. Bloody painful injection!

Changed the job I was doing (fork truck driver) and my osteopath/alternative therapist did a lot of muscle and joint manipulation and it's been pretty good for over 14 years now so long as I vary the work i do

People have the cortisone injection then choose not to rest the injury. Just because you can no longer feel the pain it doesn't mean the injury has gone. The cortisone is supposed break the cycle, reduce the swelling and ease the pain. It will not on its own fix an injury. If you have the jab make sure you rest and allow the body time to heal and also do rehab/massage whatever. I've had three in my shoulder 1-rugby injury (had the jab and carried on as normal) obviously after 3 months the pain was back, so had injection number 2- I rested and performed exercises and it work until I fell from a ladder and tore it again (I wasn't in this line of work then). 3- had the "guided cortisone" using ultrasound to make sure they hit the exact right spot as it was the last one I'd be allowed in one place as it would start to weaken the joint. Sorry for waffling! To summarise - the cortisone jab is a brilliant thing and can sort you out no problem but it's not a magic wand, without rest and rehabilitation, using precautions after you'll just end up having that niggle the rest of your life. (Which is usually when you blame the doctors and say that it's their fault). Good luck chief

Long term use cancels short term pain relief. Your Liver and other organs will pay the price and some of the side effects are not pleasant. Consider gene therapy if this treatment is available in the U.K.

Gene therapy? Do you use that for this sort of injury in the US?

drlox.com Here is the web-site for the 21 Century technology that uses your own body's stem cells to cure ones injuries. I personally have not had a need for such therapy, treatment yet however I will consider it seriously once the need arrises.

I know of local friends that have had this procedure and the results have been astounding. If anyone chooses to use steroids to mask or dull the pain due to injury that is their business. I won't be a canadate for this type of treatment in the future since I have alternative means of curing these future injuries.

I'd try and avoid injections if at all possible - we used to know some of the Liverpool football team in the '80s and they were regularly given the injections to keep them going through the season. Their bodies have suffered for it long term. Rest, anti-inflammatories and good physio should solve most issues, but for all of us the problem is being disciplined enough to properly rest the affected area. Maybe the festive break will give you an opportunity?

Avoid if possible. Studies show that cortisone is rarely a lasting solution and can weaken the joint in the long term.

As said, find out what the problem is. Remedies include: rest, hot/cold, dynaband exercises, deep tissue massage, ultrasound.

I had a jab in my knee 3 years ago for arthritis. It felt great for two days then I felt no benefit whatsoever.

I decided to take up Tabata circuit training instead and experienced a marked improvement.

Waste of time in my experience.
