Seems to me like this thread is a lot of climbers and boss men moaning about everybody else! As a time served groundie, I can say with confidence that nobody is perfect, climbers and boss men included! There has been plenty of times I've wanted to drag a climber out the tree and chip them, or give the boss a hoof up the backside. It works both ways, but not everyone is useless. You just have to find the good ones and stay working with them

In my opinion if something is wrong or annoys you, do something about it. If said idiot doesn't learn you then have a real problem. You can't cure stupid, as is said a lot.

Not that I'm not sympathetic, working with people who DGAF is soul destroying, in the end peanuts and monkeys comes to mind but it isn't always the case, get a good guy pay him his worth, people who can't or won't learn you have to let them go for your own sanity at least.

I think it's a youth thing, I started working in a factory at 16 with a couple of guys I knocked around with who were a couple of years older, was I keen to work? did I try to learn quickly? got to say no, I just wanted to have a laugh.

At 20 in a bigger factory I'd changed, matured if you like, the money was vastly better which I didn't want to risk losing by not getting the job done and I'd a few more responsibilities. Now at 53 and new to this industry I've enough life/work experience to watch and learn, not be standing around waiting to be told to do something but being willing to stop what I'm doing and go where needed when asked, to respect other peoples equipment but I'll use it hard if I need to as I do with my own equipment.

There are vastly more distractions for a 16 year old now than there was when I was 16, mobile phones for one, we were all young once but obviously guys who are now running their own business are that bit more focused than most which is why they have their own business, in a way it's maybe a good thing that you have slightly inept workers otherwise you'd have no employees but you'd have 10 guys in competition. :001_smile:

I often have to work with inexperienced helpers,

The way they stand on the ground and say things like 'just drop that there, flop that over and swing that over the greenhouse'

Its all so easy when it isn't you who is going to pay for any damage!

Why do you have to work with inexperienced helpers?

You've hit the nail on the head there. :thumbup1:
