I watched a very factual Youtube about how wind and solar can only(as yet) follow national grid frequency, since they generate DC which must be changed to A.C with invertors, which must match the frequency they provide to the grid. Except when the grid goes down, these invertor sources muct switch themselves OFF. Which is so really really useful when the dammned grid is needing more juice. Etc etc etc

They actually require diesel generators for that reason, grid goes down and no power to furl the turbines or lock the blades and it's runaway and goodbye turbine.

 

They use gearboxes to shift gears and run motors, some are hydraulic due to the torque.

 

Mechanical gearboxes would probably explode with the levels of torque from the blades spinning.

Id suggest some on here read this  and a selection of the comments from people who actually know what they are talking about in regards UK energy. Rather than just looking up how much concrete is in an onshore wind turbine base ( everyone is different depending on the prevailing ground conditions) and presuming that’s how they are all built.

I can’t foresee the future here or over there you bloody fool. 
What I suspect is that the current situations with Putin, Isreal, Iran,N Korea etc may well be different, if peace “ or a form of it “ can be established in the Middle East “ remember the Abraham Accord” then im sure that will benefit a few kids. Regards insects and homosexuals speak to those who know.

Maybe you don't have children, but if you did you'd appreciate that the natural world is a very different place to how it was when we were their age. Hell, you might even feel a touch of sadness. What state do you think the world will be in when they're our age? There's a Biodiversity collapse COP going on at the moment, they're discussing stuff like this.
