If you are asking whether turning the political, social and scientific clock back 50 years, then no. The ramifications of these actively backwards policies remains to be seen. I would love to be a fly on the walls of the working class Republican voting households when the penny drops and they realise that as a consequence of the policies of the administration they voted for, they are much, much worse off.

Obama care may help the very poor and those on benefits, but its paid for by an increase in the health insurance costs of everyone else.

Whilst I'll freely admit that I'm a little conflicted on the issue, empirical evidence suggests that the highest quality of life is achieved in the most equal societies. Sweden springs to mind.

 

Due to the monumental inequality between different social and economic demographics in the US, a programme such as Obamacare was and is necessary in order to ensure the poorest do not live without any health coverage. In the UK (with the NHS), I'm not sure that we can fully understand the nature of a fully privatised system (as exists in the US). The idea of having to make life changing decisions on the basis of personal cost is frightening.

Yeah but Trump is going to deregulate the health insurance sector, generating competition so everyone can afford a plan, even the poor. The rehabilitation of the industrial sector, cheaper energy via new pipelines, etc, will create more jobs for poor people, thus allowing them to once again take personal responsability for their healthcare. Sweden is the rape and suicide capital of Europe, by the way - just saying.
