What tickles me is the debate about spiking when no-one comments on the eight inch cuts of the reduction itself.:confused1:

A subject myself and Mike Hill have argued about for the past 10 years Gary.

I use 'argued' very loosely, as we're both in total agreement with you.

Still, no need to spike that tree, although they are bastards to set a line in or climb comfortably.

It can be done though, no one ever said this job was easy,

Purists hate ladders, bollocks to that, they're golden on jobs like this, as one lad has already said. As long as you're stropped in you can even cut from them if you know what you're doing.

WoodyPaul I kind of get where you're coming from with 8 cuts, but I guarantee that tree is bigger than it looks and you'd muller the garden.

I've cut whole pollard heads off in the past on willows with mixed results.

Was joking Mark.

The tree in question has been done many times before by the look of it, so as It's been done some how just work out how and do it the same way.

I know a couple of odd job gardener that work around my area how would just get a ladder and pruning saw and just re pollard it.
