To be honest I can't see any way to address the issue fairly and properly other than re-lay the driveway, or possibly soak it up as best you can (quarry dust/cement and then power wash after a day or two) and offer money as compensation for the inevitable staining. But if you do that be sure you have it documented some way or they may come back at you in future.

Polar fleece (as in fleece jacket stuff) absorbs oil but not water. It's good for emergency use, oil doesn't like coming out of it again though, but if you're in a pickle it's a good substitute for a proper spill kit. (which you ought to have on board anyway...)

ARRRGH!

Again!

After 5min of chipping since we tightened these joints.

This time it's in a country lane and I'll get away using sawdust.

G.M France are sending a replacement chipper and it's due to arrive Monday.

This afternoon I'll be finishing the Quadchip which I'm glad we kept as a back up.

Couple of suggestions, as has been stated a good spill kit is very handy and on construction sites, Offshore and on Vessels etc mandatory when hydraulic eqpt is being used the absorbent granules are great at soaking up any spillages. Take a look at the temporary drip trays ie the plastic/vinyl ones you can get at very limited cost nowadays and when not in use they fold away easily. Whenever im working near rivers or watercourses etc we always use Biodegradable hydraulic oil this is in fact a requirement for many clients.

As for the actual spill ive always found fairy liquid as mad as it seems is great at clearing up sheen etc off water and for cleaning up after the granules have done their thing also a detergent called Aqua Tuff works well.

On a recently laid tarmac drive...

Whilst I was hospitalised due to being stung 7 times by Asian Hornets, one of our chippers blew a hose.

(it actually just came undone, second time too...)

Then it emptied almost the entire hydro tank over the clients drive before any-one noticed.

I visited the client today and oh my...I have some cleaning up to do Wednesday morning.

Thing is, other than detergents, what else is good on oil.

I'll be down the the local hydraulic specialist first thing to see what they use.

Sprinkle persil powder on and leave for an hour or so to soak in then pressure wash.worked for me:thumbup:

Any oil will stain, the point of bio oil is that in the event of a spill, its not dumping mineral oil into the environment.

I'd suck as much up as you can with cement dust, then brush it up and spray the entire area with tfr and rub it all in everywhere with a stiff yard brush (spread the stain over as big an area as you can). Finish with a good jet wash (spinning patio cleaner head on a petrol jet wash for best results).
