Carrying out work on a neighbours trees
William Clifford replied to William Clifford's topic in Trees and the Law
Thanks @openspaceman May have been at home, but they didn't answer the door. Yeah, not a big issue, it's fine as long as the permissions are gained, was just thinking it through in case they can't get the neighbour to put it in writing. Cheers. -

On some outsiders, punting them into the farmers field. Got this far by 11am. So much faster and easier.

I also run the saw like a hand saw in big timber too when I’m half way through to ream it out so to speak and it does work well.

Thanks for the support Mick. I am gearing myself up to just go for it. Lots to learn and nothing to lose apart from elbow/hand grease and the cost of parts.

Bulk Arb Waste wanted - can collect but how to find
swinny replied to Woodwanter's topic in Firewood forum
That must only be for pee wee outfits. There is and always has been a value albeit small in the timber and chip. Letting that go to waste or giving it away is not good business and never will be -
Thanks, doobie darling.

Norwood Lumbermate 2000 Sawmill Mobile sawmill with lots of upgrades This is an earlier model than the current one, and is built far heavier and stronger than the current model. The log bunks are 6”x2” steel box, whereas today’s model is just a steel pressing, for example. This sawmill was fitted with many upgrades from new, as below:- · 23hp vee-twin electric-start engine – the largest available · Road tow kit – turns a static mill into a go-anywhere mobile sawmill. · Log loading kit, consisting of a set of ramps on one side and a winch on the other. · 1½” blade system - wider blade than normal for better cutting. · Extended bed – now 24’ in length, giving a loading capacity of 20’ x 36” log · Quick dog kit – allows cutting right down to the last ¾” board so no wood is wasted. The mill has capacity for a log 20’ long by 3’ diameter, and this allows for cutting a maximum board width of 26”, which I can say I have done many times and the motor copes with that without difficulty. The sawmill can be towed by any car as it is well under the 750kg weight limit for unbraked trailers. It tows well and is surprisingly easy to manoeuvre. I have often taken it out on location where you can set up beside a fallen tree and mill it in situ. I am the second owner and had it set up at my farm where I cut timber for many customers. Seems that as soon as it’s known that you have a mill, everyone wants something cut on it! I recouped my initial investment within the first year after I bought it. The mill has been in dry storage in a lock-up, as shown in two of the pictures, and will need a couple of hours to re-commission it. I have included a selection of pictures of work done during my ownership. Also included is a comprehensive build and parts manual from the manufacturer. This week at the UK’s Arb Show, Timberwolf will present the latest member to the pack, the TW 280HB DIESEL wood chipper. Incorporating an industry tested Hyundai 55hp diesel engine, the TW 280HB DIESEL has been designed to include the best in class features associated with the Timberwolf range of chippers plus a number of enhancements. Above all, the latest Timberwolf wood chipper demonstrates the “Easy to Use, Easy to Own” design methodology which has supported arborists across the globe for nearly 40 years. “Timberwolf wood chippers are at the heart of so many arborist’s businesses,” said Chris Perry, Timberwolf’s Managing Director. “We regularly seek feedback from the arborist community and the primary product they wanted to see return in 2025 was an 8” diesel woodchipper. This development project has allowed us to incorporate leading technologies and smart design to deliver a simple yet incredibly powerful wood chipper. From our launch events, I know that our Dealers and Distributors can’t wait to share this machine with their networks.” Timberwolf, simply easy to use, easy to own. EASY TO USE The role of an arborist is naturally a physically demanding one and Timberwolf has always looked to design wood chippers which are simple to use. The TW 280HB DIESEL’s optimised infeed design has a feed funnel wide enough to accommodate the wildest and greenest of brash whilst the flat tray makes it easy to position and rest cord wood as it is fed into the chipper. With a lifting top infeed roller, a feature on all Timberwolf machines, the chipper readily accepts flat faced cord wood minimising timber kick and re-adjust time. Based on user feedback, the throttle cable has been removed and replaced with a new electronic throttle system integrated into the highly regarded side buttons in the operator zone. A feature that customers should look out for in future developments. EASY TO OWN Timberwolf wood chippers are renowned for their durability, the TW 280HB DIESEL is no different and owners should expect the same level of easy maintenance with the Dealer network available to support servicing needs. In reinforcing the “Easy to Own” approach, the TW 280HB DIESEL is the first of our wood chippers to include new, simple, and accessible diagnostic and operating data to support end users and Dealers alike. The intuitive and robustly tested HMI display screen provides not only clear usage data but also engine and chipper troubleshooting notifications. With an adjustable home screen menu to support user preferences and the DPF regeneration process, the HMI display will also offer a number of language options as a part of the initial launch phase. The control software, IQAN, first incorporated into the TW 280HB HYBRID, has been selected as the leading machine control software for its new 8” diesel counterpart. Once the free app is downloaded to a mobile device, IQAN provides user access to live operating and diagnostic data - not only for the end user but also remotely to approved Timberwolf Dealers when needed. When considering the ease of regular maintenance checks, the TW 280HB DIESEL has zero blade to anvil gap removing the need to spend time shimming to ensure optimal chipping performance. As with all Timberwolf chippers, the chipper is sold with a 3-year Timberwolf warranty as standard with the option to extend to 5 years. BOOK A DEMONSTRATION Timberwolf will launch and demonstrate the TW 280HB DIESEL at the Arb Show (16th and 17th May) at Westonbirt National Arboretum. To find out more and book your machine demonstration, please contact your local Authorised Timberwolf Dealer or visit our website.

Single-sided hedge trimmers offer numerous benefits, including a longer and lighter cutting bar, as well as improved safety. Designed for professional landscapers, the HSA 150 R and HSA 150 T are the first single-sided hedge trimmers in the STIHL AP System, comparable in performance to the popular petrol HS 87. Available in lengths of 75cm or 100cm, the HSA 150 comes equipped with a catcher plate as standard, increasing the speed at which the top of hedges can be cut. Alongside the impressive performance, the HSA 150 also offers high levels of operator comfort. The new hedge trimmer weighs just 4.3 – 4.7 kg (without battery) and is comfortable to hold thanks to the ergonomic handle grips. The wide grip stance, combined with the central centre of gravity, allows the HSA 150 to be pivoted with ease, resulting in minimal strain to the operators’ wrists or arms. The HSA 150 is quiet in operation, and thanks to its highly effective anti-vibration system, is suitable for long periods of use too. When cutting hedges with a petrol machine, the fumes can often collect within the hedge, resulting in a poor working environment for the user. Battery-powered machines such as the HSA 150 can eliminate this problem entirely. Featuring 38mm tooth spacing, the HSA 150 R is best suited to annual pruning or hedge reduction work. Its lower maximum RPM of 3,200 also allows thicker branch material to enter the cutters efficiently. Alternatively, the HSA 150 T has a higher maximum RPM and smaller 30mm tooth spacing, making it better suited to ornamental or fine leaf hedges such as taxus, buxus or privet, where a fine finish is required. The HSA 150 benefits from a new gearbox design, consisting of a two-step planetary gear. This results in exceptionally high cutting performance and fast cold start up, as well as improved protection of the internal components thanks to the integrated slip clutch. To help prevent the blades from jamming, the HSA 150 features an innovative anti-blocking system that reverses the motors rotational direction to unblock the blades, minimising product downtime and enhancing the efficiency of the tool. The HSA 150 utilises the same friction optimised, double edged blades that feature on the HS 87 professional petrol models, resulting in long lasting sharpness, a consistently clean cut and ample durability for long cutting seasons. When used with the recommended AP 200 S battery, the HSA 150 R has a maximum working time of 150 minutes, while the HSA 150 T’s maximum working time is up to 140 minutes. Much has changed since Wayne Pugsley of 5 Shires Tree Surgery ventured into offering arb, woodland and forestry services over 30 years ago, but the one constant has been his choice of woodchipper – and for that, it’s always been GreenMech! More than three decades on, and now onto his seventh machine, the Droitwich-based arborist explains why reliability, familiarity and outstanding service has kept him loyal to the brand. Wayne has been working in green services since the age of 19. Frustrated with handing over the arb enquiries received from his domestic customer base in and around the West Midlands, he undertook the relevant courses and qualifications, purchased his first GreenMech machine, and the rest was history! “I spent £800 and got a second-hand unit which truthfully did cause me a bit of grief, but didn’t distract from the fact I actually really liked the machine. I liked that it was manufactured local to me, I appreciated the build quality, user-friendly operation and I quite quickly built a good relationship with a number of people at the factory. And that remains true to this day. It’s refreshing to find a company who prioritise quality and hold true to family values, which transmits in how they cooperate with their customers.” “My workload has always determined which model is right at the time of upgrade and, while I’m not GreenMech’s biggest customer, the service I receive time after time makes me feel like I am.” Wayne emphasises the point with an example of GreenMech’s willingness to find a solution to an ongoing storage issue. “I needed a folding chute to enable me to store the chipper in a container, but the standard folding chute was still too tall. I explained the issue and GreenMech engineered something to suit my requirements and, every time I change my machine, they fit the bespoke chute to my new model.” The chute is now equipped on Wayne’s most recent purchase – a 40hp EVO 165P complete with new SMART FEED remote system – which was delivered by GreenMech’s Neal Hussey in March 2025. “The EVO is by some distance the best machine they’ve produced. The power, performance and value for money you get is outstanding.” He continues, “I work with a number of sub-contractors who enjoy using the EVO 165P. Meanwhile, I enjoy the peace of mind that the machine is bulletproof and isn’t going to let them down on a job!” “I also have my chippers painted in an all-green livery which GreenMech sort for me without issue.” But, for Wayne, it doesn’t stop there… “I also have green on my trailer and a lot of my safety gear is green – I will never use another brand so why not go all in and have everything in keeping?!” For more information on the new, higher horsepower petrol-powered EVO 165P, visit www.greenmech.co.uk

50:50 sounds strong to me. Ive not used jays fluid on trees, but its pungent! Ive used general purpose insecticide/fungacide with great success on a few sick trees. Also in this weather, I would also feed and water the tree.

Hi all, I am a contract climber from Australia. Looking at getting a winch/friction drum. I work with a diverse range of companies at a lot of different skill levels. I wanted to get some outsider opinions on whether it would be worth buying a GRCS, Hobbs or a winch we sell in Australia very similar to the Hobbs called a THS (total height safety) friction drum. My main question/s are time and teaching related. Obviously the GRCS takes a bit more training for people to understand but when you have a good rope man it can be very efficient. Also a lot more risk in terms of price and damage. Price 6k With a Hobbs a very robust and simple unit. Less lifting capability but it’s still there for pretensioning and smaller lifts. And a lot less risk in terms of damage. Similar price to get to Australia. last is the THS fairly similar to the Hobbs but a lot cheaper for me to get here almost 2k difference. We generally aren’t lifting branches often but have had a few jobs where it would have made a huge difference. what are the contract climbers using? And what have you found best for you? I appreciate your time! thanks heaps!
