  6. how can it be a mugs game? What you mean is most people aren't intelligent enough to know how to build a good reputation, intangibles that build a moat around their business to help protect from competition. Members aspen, greygit, arbwork, et al they have far more gear than most. They aren't poor mugs

  9. Hi ArbTalk Community, I am searching for some guidance on tree pruning strategies, especially in regards to develop fruit trees. I have a few apple and pear trees in my nursery that need pruning but I'm unsure about the best approach to ensure healthy growth and a good harvest. In particular, I need to be aware: Q.1 What are the suggested pruning practices for mature fruit trees, including timing and frequency? Q.2 How can I identify and safely remove dead or diseased branches without harming the tree? Q.3 Are there any special considerations or techniques for pruning fruit-bearing branches to optimize fruit production? Any experiences, tips, or suggested resources would be greatly valuable. Much thanks to you ahead of time for your skill. Best Regards, Steve
  10. The trick to making money in this industry is working solo/with another lad and doing smaller and nicer jobs of your choice and reap the rewards. Finish early most days and don't get stressed. Big jobs with big equipment is a mugs game.
  11. Looks ok id leave it alone. Though you could mulch round base etc if you like....
  12. As a project, you might be able to pick up a spares or repair model and mix and match them together - some spares or repair are "can't be bothered with it", you might get lucky (I have 2 hedge trimmers, both spares or repair, both worked well (one doesn't now since I rebuilt it - a winter project) ). Not sure it is worth a lot spent on new parts but is nice to get something working again.
  13. Put it back together, give it a clean up take a few decent pics and sell it on the bay as spares or repair.......you will get £50-£80 for it easy. Unless you really want to take it apart and money isn't an issue?
  14. I'll take it to bits and have a look then. I like doing that sort of thing. They don't seem to be very highly tuned engines.Anything to watch for, or is it better in the "What's on your bench today" thread? I've never taken a chainsaw engine apart. Should be fun.

We would love any timber for our fires in the house. We have chainsaws and axes so can chop up larger pieces ourselves. The street is a dead end and you can dump the trailer directly onto the street. We will then chute it into the basement.
  16. We require bark chip for our school allotment and other areas around school. We have space woodchip to be tipped, up to around 10 cubic meters (2 loads).
