Good morning. Bit of an edge to it out there. Off to Farnborough for second phase works. Have a splendid start to the week.
-
A sharp chain beats more power all day long . As above . The smallest , lightest that will do the job every time .
-
Looks like a dry day ahead, the temperatures are due to plummet this week. A straight forward Oak dismantle with a bit of rigging out before felling. All log and chip staying on site. 👍
-
390 should be on .375 ( 3/8ths ) not .325 . Bar length 20,24,28 seems good . I have a Spud ported one .
-
My 90cc comes out of the workshop about twice a year. I use the smallest, lightest saw that will effectively do the job, 80% of what I do on the ground is done with a 550xpg (50cc) the rest 572xpg (70cc), you clearly don’t do this job for a living.
-
Mornin’ Stubs et al. Dryish week ahead, another lime re pollard, lad (up and coming climber) would be miffed if he’s not allowed to do it, so I’m picking up sticks all day.
-
Cooler here, sounds still too! Another day of calling Ufkes Owners and some of the previous enquiries! Be good y'all. Tote, Aloe, Tear, Yearn
-
Morning all . Starlit sky and noticeably cooler at 4c with a high of 8c .

As pure a pile of rubbish as has been posted on here for a while.

60cc seems the minimum for the "average user". Probably too big if you're climbing trees 😁 But for ground stuff I begin to think a 90cc chainsaw is the right choice. (390/395xp). More power is always welcomed. I sure am tempted
-
60-70cc seems to be the right spot for a chainsaw for the normal/"average" guy, not professional. BUT: I did got the chance to hold and use/cut into a hardwood log with a Husqvarna 390,old but in good shape. I was impressed ,quite a difference from Makita EA6100P. And same dude ,that is almost always either in forest chopping trees or in 6x4 truck transporting logs , confessed he's thinking about a new Husqvarna 395xp . Because more power= better chainsaw. Who's complaining about weight get back to gim and pushups 😁 I haven't used+carried that 390xp all day or at least 3-4 hours but it didn't felt that much heavier than a Makita EA6100. Chain .325 but it has limits... As for blade length... As long as you need it to be . Women want it longer and bigger. 🙄 They must know something

I managed to get hold of a 564 recently and it's a great saw to use ( an hour or so a day logging up for a week or two ) been told told December same as Mark and I would imagine we have the same rep being in the north west. Although we all know how they like to get stuff out on time

You present us with a false dichotomy. Minimising the impact of AI doesn't mean we have to go back to a hand to mouth existence. I put my hand up; I want to go back 20 years. We had most of the gains to be derived from technology, without many of the risks. Equating AI with other technological advancements in history just doesn't work I'm afraid. It's on a completely different scale in terms of speed and magnitude of change to society and the world around us. I mean, what was the worst that could have happened from planting seeds, instead of foraging? It can't be uninvented, true. But it could be limited, curtailed, controlled or at the very least regulated to some extent. Non of that seems to be happening at present. It's just being foisted on us by a handful of mega rich twts seeking to make even more money from it. At the expense of us and the planet. BTW - I've yet to see anyone on here extolling any of the virtues of AI. How exactly is it beneficial to me? Or anyone else? Why do we need it? I'm quite capable of looking information up on a search engine, writing a job application or speaking to a friend on the phone if I need a chat.

I was under the impression of the exact opposite.

A Christmas treat usually! I'll have to try it with the sandwiches this week, depends if the ground is frozen over at lunchtime tomorrow maybe - I'll let you know what I think. Had to google that, yes brassica - also Wassabi which HR is often a cheap replacement

Check you for decadence. I'm normally too lazy, so just grate it and then mix with some vinegar and a pinch of salt and sugar. Goes nicely in a cheese sandwich I've found. I also put HR in Fire Cider and Sauerkraut sometimes. So the Brassica family. Must be vying with the Apiaceae, (Umbelliferae) family for culinary usefulness.

Good grief, the writer of that article has some serious hang ups! I guess he walks everywhere and uses a typewriter to send letters to his friends! Which to be fair there is nothing wrong with. And also to be fair he does make some valid points. But he lost me when he said AI is racist. And the example he gave was pathetic. I think we can all agree that AI has its risks, just the same as probably every technological advancement from planting seeds to grow your crops to machines replacing skilled workers also has risks and downsides. In fact you could reasonably argue that where it all started going wrong for humanity is when we learnt agriculture ten thousand years ago: life expectancy plummeted, we became stunted due to lack of variety in diet and almost every major catastrophe that has happened since would have been impossible before large scale farming. But put your hand up if you want to go back to a hand to mouth existence where you hope you can feed your family and keep them alive for one more day. Surely we need to learn to harness AI and use it for our ends. After all it can’t be uninvented!

Ah the wrong data is it 😂😂 and you know this how exactly?? You are trying too hard sailor boy. If you want the ecstasy of a pants round your ankles in front of your computer “ Gotcha “ moment you are gonna have to up your game big time.

I’ve found the best way to keep costs down is to buy unseasoned wood in bulk and stack it yourself to dry. Also worth checking local tree surgeons, often they’re happy to drop off loads much cheaper than firewood suppliers.

Frankly, it shows how fragile the notion of "freedom of expression" in the United Kingdom has become. We may not agree with his words, but the idea that we can be arrested just for writing this is quite disturbing.

Hmm, this is a modern beat combo I'm not familiar with.
