My 2p is whatever security you're thinking of, get on and do it. Had one trailer nicked while the security wheel lock was on order, that's particularly galling. I wouldn't keep a chipper outside, you need to avoid making things a target and not visible is the first step.
-
Why's that? I've had some get crap in so difficult to open, otherwise they are reasonably secure?
-
But that is a pertinent point.. likewise those making the most noise about asylum seekers on this forum live a long long way away from where they are housed, and form their opinions as far as I can tell from Farage, the Daily Mail, Linkedin and twatter, rather than going to find out what is happening in reality. It is the singular headlines that are reported here to try to alter opinions and never the complete picture... and those singular headlines are reported from a press with an agenda, with owners who have an agenda )and the agenda is usually make the press owners another billion).

It might well be. I'll lend you a clipboard if you want to come over here and find out for yourself.

Well... 50 prominent woman, none of whom will live anywhere near any asylum hotels are only in that article to boost their own profiles. Be interesting to hear from 50 woman local to the hotels ,no?

Perhaps not, but it's a salient point. The right-wing tend to use "fear for our women & kids" as justification for their actions. That's a fact.

You tell em prominent Woman! That'll show em. "Signatories include the musicians Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and Anoushka Shankar as well as Labour, Green and independent MPs including Kim Johnson, Ellie Chowns, Diane Abbott and Zarah Sultana." Hardly a comprehensive list of grass roots Woman by any means.

I'd strongly suggest you follow Mick and Bocca's recommendations -with the addition of a secure chain, lock and (boxed) ground anchor, underneath the trailers -where it's more difficult to get at, with a cordless grinder? Just get busy with a stick welder and some 5-10mm plate.. Also, planting 1m high plants of Berberis/Cotoneaster/Hawthorn at 0.3m centres, along any boundary/fencelines. Add 1.8m posts and a couple of strands of razor wire support lines, at 0.5 and1m high too (not barbed wire !). On mesh fences, the addition of high opacity green nylon privacy netting maybe helps. This is easy to find on the net and better than Scaffold netting. Install several strategically placed bird boxes...with a wildlife trip camera in one? Run a LED floodlight and PIR sensors off a Car battery in your container unit. Avoid the self contained security solar cell units, that have batteries that die in the first good frost of the year. I know all this sounds absurd, and you likely think it is/might be: overlooked/secure/all insured, etc -but the consequences of a successful theft absolutely guarantees return visits, more grief for you and higher insurance premiums, if you can even get future cover.. Sorry to appear so 'doom and gloom', but yes, I do speak from the benefit of first hand experience... Oh, and consider adding a manual sunken vehicle bollard, positioned next to your main gate. Do avoid any ones with the circular 'security' type key like the plague!

What do I hope to gain? Peace of mind, and long bar life. So far, so good. Re unit cost, I know that bulk buying saves money, but while I certainly use more than a couple of litres a year, I don't use so much that saving money on chain oil is vitally important, especially if: it leads me to have issues with oiling, or incur repair/early replacement costs. Like I said, if it ain't broke...........

Training another idea? You're either cut out for it or not, you'd already know.

Over time there has been a few threads on container / yard security... to save time in the discussion we usually fall short of wiring it to the mains on an evening. The more you can do the better, you'll know the yard - how would you break in, then add an angle grinder and brute force then work out how to stop that. Best you can do is slow them down really if they want to get in. What is the visibility of the yard like? Out of sight or not? A couple for you to think about - what exactly are you going to keep? Just the chipper and trailers or more? Just chipper and trailer you can secure them individually, but a container full of stuff needs some thinking, also the values - no point putting in £20k of security cameras for £5k of kit for example - but ask the insurers the minimum they will accept too in the case of a claim.
