  5. Wunderbah! A picture is indeed worth a thousand words Jules. Thank you.
  6. Rotary valve, but otherwise a conventional 4 stroke piston engine.
  7. I took found this channel, and was gobsmacked at both his can-do gotta be fixable attitude, his downright stupendous level of knowledge and application. Never mind the endless, " I remember we just happened to have a few spares" like the odd Meteor tank V12 engine, endless black box control units, suitable for a Cromwell tank, etc etc. He must have really went to town when the army had a clear out of new old stock.

  9. This was yesterday news but I was too busy ram raiding Tesco's to post about it. Prepare - Prepare PREPARE.CAMPAIGN.GOV.UK Anyone prepping for the zombie apocalypse! No coincidence that they announced the general election on the same day eh.
  10. Don't expect a "good solicitor" to do anything of the sort; you can instruct a solicitor to do that but it won't come as part of a regular conveyance and depending on what you ask them for, it could be expensive and take some time (longer than a normal purchase). A search of the Land Registry website map is free - this will show you whether the plot is registered or not. If it is registered it will cost you £3 to download the title which should give you the name and address of the registered owner. Depending on age of that registration that migth be useful information or simply the beginning of a search. You are then into detective work and solicitors will subcontract such work out. A member of the Association of British Investigators may be of use. Put your postcode into this: Tracing & Status Reports | ABI: Association of British Investigators WWW.THEABI.ORG.UK Tracing people calls for persistence, tact and diplomacy. ABI will help you find a specialist investigator with the vital skills and qualities. and you should be able to find closest to you. Expensive? Probably cheaper than a (good) solicitor.

I've got a few 205l plastic drums as water butts, one is a dunker with mesh on the top. The others have old household brass taps Cut the end of the tap off so the water comes straight down
  13. Well I've also just got hold of Makita's baby 18V cordless rear-handle saw, the DUC357. It is not advertised as having an inertia brake by Makita UK but I did find Makita Canada mention on their product page that it has one. Low and behold I was easily able to get the brake to come on with the nose-drop test for the DUC357. Definitely some mixed messages from the manufacturers.
  14. Just borrow children and drop them inside till they get the seal right - borrow children cause you can give them back once dirty, use your own and you have to clean and dry them after, PITA.
  15. Hi there, can you delete my profile and all associated info from arbtalk please as I no longer have a need for it.

    thanks

  16. I have "joined" my two plastic drums for use as butts by filling a hose with water, weighting each end so they drop to the bottom and looping it between both drums while not allowing any air in.

Yep, you can do what you want really, fit any size/kind of tank fitting, just depends what size hole you drill. Easy enough to do as water butts are polyprop. Also, need to be able to reach inside to access the locking nut. I've only used the 3/4" plastic taps as they are the same thread and diameter size as those that come with the butts, so no extra work.
  18. Oh how easy it is for Arbtalk threads to get derailed. 😊 That's not to say they are uninteresting though.
  19. This is what you pay good solicitors for when you're purchasing a house, get them to find owner and advise on your legal position.
  20. Can you just poke some plumbing through it, a threaded connection with a washers and bolts to seal it and then any old ball valve? (I haven't ever looked at this but you must be able to get a suitable externally threaded pipe)
  21. There is no definitive solution, but if I was buying a property that was located adjacent to a plot of land without a clear and contactable owner I would attempt to sort the problem out before finalising purchase, especially if there was a tree potentially affecting the property (underpinning may have worked against a smaller tree but the tree may well have grown since then). The best method depends on how accessible any boundary of the neighbour's plot is to a public area but: 1) undertake a Land Registry map search to see if the plot is registered 2) if registered you will have a name and address of an individual or company. Make reasonable efforts to find that person or company and record your efforts; leave a reasonable period of time for them to respond (at least a month but you may need longer....people go to hospital etc) 3) ask the person who is selling for their knowledge; ask other nearby property owners for information; record any efforts and feedback 4) has that person died? moved abroad? if died you would need to find a will to see if somone has inheritied the plot 5) depending on location, place a robust note (laminated for weather purposes) on the tree in question and on the plot boundary where members of the public could see it. Give contact details saying you would like to make contact because a tree is causing a nuisance. 6) contact the local council to see if there is any record of council tax/voter registration for the plot 7) if you really do find a blank you may well be able to buy your property and then start using the adjacent plot. Look up adverse possession...."adverse possession of registered land" or unregistered land if it is unregistered......you may be able to buy two plots!
  22. I posted this before a strimmer with a rotarty engine. Selling them in japan Gonna be used on flying cars apparently! 🙂 https://www.kaaz.co.jp/en/Spec/VT740(W)KZ-CK1.pdf purple monster

Square profile of recycling bins is a more efficient use of space as well, like square plant pots. Yes, standard water butt taps are crap, useless if you're trying to do some serious watering. I've replaced mine with 1/2 turn 3/4" taps. Much better, it gushes out, almost as quick to fill as dunking the can. Still plastic though, so don't last that long. I'm on the hunt for a metal version, but no luck yet.

I use my green waste bin as a water butt Alot better than most water buts as top is wide enough you you can dip a watering can in, unlike most others that are too narrow. Also thoose cheap plastic taps at the bottom of bought butts are totally useless imo as they takes ages to fill a watering can and break easy as the plastic gets brittle. Having say 10 or 20 bins daisy chained etc would be even more useful to store more water. Reuse is more eco than recycle
