sandspider started following Larch or sweet chestnut sleepers, near chepstow?
-
Hi folks As above. Just wondering if anyone mills sleepers near Chepstow, or knows a good source? I'd like larch for weight, decent longevity and hopefully lower price, but would consider other options. Not really after anything treated as I want it to last and not leach nasties into our herb patch. I need maybe 8 of 10 x 20 x 240cm. But could live with more shorter sleepers... What have you got?! Cheers.

yes

I usually skip this bit, maybe just take out the most vigorous ones. My theory the thing's going to sprout back like mad anyway, so let it keep as many terminal buds as possible. Saves a load of work too, obviously you're doing it for tree health reasons rather than being lazy.

Who buys Norway Spruce and Thuja in the Southwest?
Amarus replied to Paul73's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
If it is reasonable quality and quantity you could try John Jenkins at David James. Link to last year's auction: Just a moment... WWW.CHARTEREDSURVEYORS.DAVID-JAMES.CO.UK He could do with some support, to be honest. -
I was shorted £5k for a chipper by one of the main arb insurance players who advertise heavily. My mate was hit (container) and they paid out £8k for £40k’s worth of kit. You need locks, alarms, cameras, more alarms, more locks, 12b black powder mines, the list goes on. Never rely on one single thing. You are up against professional gypsies, sorry, thieves, who now have every tool at their disposal. Grinders, gas axes, tracker detectors, night vision etc. If they want it and it’s there, it’s gone. I’m not being a pessimist, but if you are putting all your kit in a container that’s in a yard ‘with some locked gates’ and leaving trailers out in the open it’s not a question of ‘if’, it’s a question of ‘when’.

My nephew's garage was done, and before he replaced the kit, he thought that the insurance cover he had was way over the top. When he started replacing kit, and he realised that like most of us, he'd often bought kit when it was on special offer, he basically hit the limit of the insurance quite quickly.

that looks very usable.

Those photos were at a show in Tenbury Wells a couple years ago. Don't know who the guy was but presumably he is very local.
-
What sort of courses do you run?
-
Cheers, Rich. Our approaches coincide. Not remotely looking forward to it but good opportunity to do a nice job on a very visible tree. Hugs and kisses. Dissolve the state.

I come home more tired from training than I do from climbing 🤣

Thing that pissed me of was not working out what was stolen or being able to replace it even though I had a 9k limit on a business credit card ..and they came back again took a new stihl Ms 241 when my dad was taken ill..but its the damage they do and the police 's piss poor attitude.

I have pruned and reduced plenty of them looking back. Thin the canopy by taking all of the sucker growth / water shoots. The straight upright ones. The drop crotch the remainder of the tree where necessary. There is usually, already an inner crown that you can bring in some of the leaders to match. Those trees are all over South East London. Gardens and as street trees. Usually pushing the brickwork out as well as they have grown fatter than the space can accommodate .

Not according to the Id book screen shot our ‘Anarchist Lawyer come wood cutter’ posted. Largely planted as street trees the Pissardii variant.

After a whole week of unnessasary stress.. the re-sent DPD ladder changed from "at depot", to "returning to sender". I sped off to rescue them, no time to find straps for the roof rack, they would have to fit in the car! Neither DPD or DX could give me any rational explaination. Got them home. Got the comical cardboard wrapping into the recycling. Its not perfect, theres a small dent on the top rung and the weld quality is hidden by the plastic covers. At 8 rungs its very stable. I'll find somewhere better and without sandles before I try 15 rungs, but it would give a working height near roof level of the average house.

I used to work in them a lot in the UK and London streets. I used the C word a lot but not the cerasifera version of it.

I have finally got everything lined up -track, loading area and felling licence- to take down 3- 4 acres of mixed Norway spruce and Thuja plicata that I own close to Chippenham in North Wiltshire. I don't know who to try to sell it to. Any suggestions please? Some of the Norway Spruce it is quite chunky by now are there any upper diameter limits that most buyers have? I don't have a forwarder, so I think I will need to get someone in to get the logs to the loading area. Again all suggestions welcome. Thanks.
