I’d go for an adjustable one with rings rather than plain rings each end. Something around 2.5–3m seems to cover most trees I’m on. The prussik makes it easy to snug up whether it’s over a limb or round the stem, and you don’t have to keep retying knots. They are a bit harder to retrieve off a stem if you really crank them tight, but as long as the bark’s not too rough and you don’t jam it in a union they usually pull out fine with a decent flick and a retrieval cone/ball. Big step up in comfort compared to a sling and steel crab, and you can actually get it back from the ground.
  4. Both are decent bits of kit. From what a lot of climbers say, the SAKA feels a bit smoother and lighter, and it’s easy to tweak the bungee so it sits right, while the HAAS tends to give you that longer ‘big step’ feel and is pretty bomb-proof. If you’re already used to 30" of travel on the HAAS you might miss that with the SAKA, but most people seem to find it more efficient over a full day. I’d pick based on which set-up fits your rope diameter and how you like to stand in the harness rather than the spec sheet.

  11. Morning all, Get my state pension today, 66. Celebrating by going out to work. Young lad dismantling large manky pine close to a shed. I’m on the ground. Yesterday for only the second time ever we experienced carb icing up due to fog and below zero. Yet today’s max is forecast at 14 degrees. Totally weird.
  12. Morning, rest well Mick! Mild here too, word is it’s to be 12 degrees today. That should shift the last of the village ice hopefully. That’s me pretty much off now till new year, got some wee chores to do, and I’ll get steam cleaner back from the work shop so everything’s getting a good wash down. Have a good day.
  13. I used to find that winter storage thing of " running them until dry" never helped, used to **************** the carbs so I gave up on that . Like above ive had big saws thst sit in the shed until needed , and also had the old series of husqvarna having issues with fuel with one local idiot eventually getting to the saw and seizing it up (hunt) he wrecked a good h350 for not putting new fuel in it . And another workshop did 12 saws of carb cleans , pipes and not running right, the were the 2 series husqvarnas as well as the 3 series . So ive just got to a point now where I cant be fked with messing and I get better economy out of motomix or aspen , no fkd machines or gammy carbs . Also better for your health well aspen is
