  3. Morning, after being let down this wk i am looking for some one to help out on a 4,8 acre birch thinning site we have, this would ideally suit some one who is at Myerscough collage who has a odd day free during the wk and wants to gain some experience in felling trees, this situation i call, earn while you learn, and i will take time out to explain and show you various technics while working along side each other, this would be ideal for some one to fast track there experience and skill set, must have at least CS30/31 own PPE saw, fuel, oil can be provided if you need more information please dont hesitate to contact us by either PM on here or give us a call on 07763013024 Regards Gary,,
  4. If I were in your shoes, I'd get a nice battery Stihl, MSA 200 or 220 for playing in the woods, stick with the Screwfix yoke for processing it at home, and maybe get a cheap Chinese 50cc run on Aspen at some point in the future if you need it.
  5. Petrol V battery, depends on what you use it for, lots of small(up to 5" or so) fire wood I've been converted to battery so much easier, no idling saw or starting it no petrol and a bit less noise(about 10db). Also top up oil and charge battery and that's it. I've a Stihl MS 180 with a 14"x3/8"x0.043 pmm chain and a Makita DUC305Z with a 12"x3/8"x0.043pmm chain both weigh 5.4kg. I've just milled(hard on any saw) 8yr old Oak 3" thick and 240" long, the Stihl used 1/2 tank of fuel. I also milled with the Makita 2yr old Ash 2" thick and 190" long and that used 1/2 battery charge, so not much difference. Using the saws, both about the same size but the battery saw is a little more rear heavy, other than that about the same.

  7. Funny isn’t it, I live in a camper, and have more visits from the police than most, not once have they tried the, drunk in charge of a vehicle. I do enjoy a beer, it’s not top of my list mind. You
  8. That depends entirely on you and the job at hand. Waist height is ideal really so you probably wouldn't need a harness. Unless you're going to have to do it for prolonged periods, i.e. hours or days on end. They can also save your shoulders sometimes if you're doing high cutting. As mentioned above, they do get in the way though so I wouldn't bother unless you need to. Also, go for a proper chest type harness, not just a shoulder strap, otherwise you'll still end up with knackered shoulders!
  9. Thanks everyone and esp. Muddy (who didn't need to apologize -- my old day job in IT taught me how few people actually listen to the advice they've asked for). This was an invaluable exercise because a. we ruled out the likes of the ParkerBrand and b. I realized that I can't justify buying one of the "pro" Stihls for a few days' work each year. It looks like there are still a few old-stock petrol MS170s for sale, but Steven's not prompted me to check out cordless saws, an option which I hadn't previously considered and which will need a lot more research. I'm a few weeks from purchase and will follow up here in case anyone happens to have hands-on. NP
  10. Up to you, just a pain and gets in the way.
  11. When you are using a long reach trimmer do you wear a harness same as you would for regular strimmer work or do you use it freehand, the work I would be using it for would be at waist height or thereabouts but would be 5ft away from where i am standing.
  12. Never heard of that brand seems very expensive for some rdm chinese brand?

  14. I had a Husqvarna one like that, was a good tool until I bought a long reach and never used it, so converted it to long reach by fitting long shaft.
  15. anyone ever used this shortened version of a long reach trimmer Jomac HT260 Short Reach Hedge Cutter (johnosullivanplant.ie) is it any better than a regular trimmer

  17. Morning all, Dry and grey here. Yesterday turned into a lovely sunny day surprisingly. I was subbing with my mewp to a pair of brothers who are relatively new in the game. They seem really decent and someone I can gradually pass on my longstanding regulars to as I slow down.
