Picked the majority of our one small tree this evening. Best year it's had in a long time. It was laden. Plus a couple more small bowls that we've already eaten. That lot is destined to be stewed and bottled tomorrow. I thought about jam but there's still too many jars in the cupboard from previous years. The strange thing is that here was not one single worm in all that lot. Very surprising as there's normally a good few. Something to do with the extremely dry summer I wonder?

Had a stihl 201 t, was flat on power needed a new carb @£300 just out of warranty -never ran right from new and was not that great , neither a quick cutter like an 020t and no grunt also .😐 Only good thing about stihl is the resale value on eBay

How’d you do a 1/4” pitch setup? can you tune the 362?

The cs362 t is just a bit bulky/slow not what I thought it would be from echo even though ive put a few tanks through it, its ok on the bigger work. regarding echo id agree with you . Cs362t reminds me of the cs270 the earlier top handle ...but at least it runs !

Goes quiet on giving up territory. - Russia bombs a US owned factory, Trump suggests "interesting times ahead" and the Ukraine should have been allowed to fight back - the opposite of Monday and rolling over. Still a couple of days left in the week for Trump to set out his definite position on the war. Depends I think who talks to him next, spineless and just says what he thinks will please the latest person to talk to him.

I’m after a Picco chain to put on my Echo 2511… it’s a stihl light 14” bar, I purchased a stihl Picco 1/4 1.1mm 72DL that got recommended to go with it and it’s a link or 2 to short, fits the stihl 150 fine but not the echo, maybe it’s a different sprocket on stihl 150 then echo cs2511 I’m unsure! Annoying as I can’t seem to find the same chain but a drive link larger! any recommendations for Picco chains for a 14” bar stihl?

I've never put tree surveys onto plans, how are you going to be recording the info? GPS locations through to printed plans and a sharpie?

That’s a bloody good point. A climber brought up on a 2511 and 362 could easily stay with the brand for life.

Emapsite works great thanks for the recommendation! but what about mapping trees on to the map image? I've tried CAD but cant get my head round it. Its a bit to complicated for me. Is there another way?

If echo sorted out the 362 they could take over the top handle saw market. My guess is that its an emission issue. I dont know how it works but no 25cc machine that i know of has an electronic carb so I presume they can bypass some legislation that the 35/40cc machines cant.

They may not be a husky dealer and have to pay top price for parts but even then its extreme. Did you do anything with the saw or is it still in a box in bits? Seems a waste if it is.

That looked good but it seems that you cant get them in the UK anymore. The start system on the br800 is to say the least a complicated setup! Ive only had two in for repair, one was was because the customer thought it was a four stroke and put neat petrol in it. The other was a starter issue. The starter was jamming open, I couldnt see any issue apart from a clean and grease and it seems to be working OK up to now.

2511 for pretty much every thing on 1/4 and 10” bar. Just swap out to a bigger saw when it’s not coping anymore. . barely ever pick up the 540 or 201 now..probably 4 times in 5 years since using the 2511. the bigger echo is pretty numb , nothing really appealing about it and the stihl and husky equivalents are better in my opinion.

As a sort of quick leak test I use brake cleaner fitted with a d40 smart straw (this thing WD-40 Smart Straw 450ml | Toolstation WWW.TOOLSTATION.COM All the benefits of the original WD-40 formula, but with a Smart Straw for precision application. Simply flip the straw up for a narrow stream or fold it down for a regular wide spray... and spray it around the intake boot impulse pipe area. You only need to spray a little, if there is a leak the engine will die. You have to make sure none of the spray is going into the carb, although with a little care you can use it to detect carb leaks. The wd40 will probably act the same as brake cleaner but I use a lot of brake cleaner and I fit them with that straw. Hmmm, maybe I should make some arb saw cleaner, smart straw plus brake cleaner. Yours for only £75.95 a can. Or buy two for £151.90 Bargain.

Run a CS362 great saw, bought it when i had trouble with Stihl MS 200T never use 200T much now. When my old boss helped me on job a couple of years ago said I was crawl to it when I double cut a large Horse chestnut limb.

Every shop customer has said that the cs2511 is their go to saw. Most bought it for pruning work but then find out they are using it for section fells and the 201 540 gets moved to the back of the queue. As Mr Bolam said get the 10" 1/4" pitch setup or go for the stihl ms151 bar and chain setup. The bigger cs362 is very reliable but it hasnt got the power and speed of the 201 or 540 and it does feel more bulky although it's slightly lighter.

The CS362, never seen one. I'm sure its a good saw but people only buy the CS2511 I have an Echo 2511 and one of the Farmertec clones Joncutter G2511 and its the clone I currently use, so consider that - mine was £92 delivered. If you intend to tune it, the clones have a much simpler exhaust that is easier to do, but all of my saws are as standard. 3/8 full chisel chains are best in my option, and I prefer the mini carving bar, you can do more precise cuts with it. Medium tree take downs? I'd say they run out of power on a 10" cut, they are suited to less. Perfect for most pruning work and limbing smaller removals then swap up to chog the stem. However recently I'd say I have been converted to battery saws for pruning and small work, generally on this work a battery will last ages. The Echo DCS2500T may be worth a look, never used one. I have the Makita UC002, its between the 2511 and my 020T for power, size and weight. My only complaint is the power button location, and that it turns off exactly when you dont want it to when doing awkward positional cuts. It is a nice saw and excellent value at £220'ish, you can claim a free battery for it until september. I still use the G2511 for smaller work but it would be nice not to need petrol except on bigger jobs.

2511 is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made in arb. Run it on 10” bar (24” if you’re American) and 1/4P and never look back.

I've two of the two 362tes, from new , bit bulky but OK echo haven't really cottoned of to furthering the machines . Can't common of echo 2511 have seen local council use them the other day and it did remind me of the stihl 020t . I've got the mitox clone of the echo 2511 , cheap quick and so far has been good . Don't like stihl being hit and miss with certain models .

Its been a long time since I've climbed but that certainly brought back memories! Most of my interactions were killing the thing but sometimes it was just a deadwood and a reduction so not all bad.

Check the wiring first and of course the off switch, if something is shorting out it will stop the spark. Its about £10 for the wiring harness and £100 for the coil. If the rest of the machine is in good condition, loads of compression, no scores on the piston then its definitely worth fixing imo.

I was going to drop it to a shop to read the ECU, pressure test etc but timing (scheduling) didn't work. It's the saw I put a new fuel tank on when a branch got dropped on it. Quite conceivable that other damage happened at the same time so I've been reading the plug fairly regularly. Always fine but the running on did worry me for reasons you allude to.

You really need to check for air leaks as holding onto a high idle is a good sign that something isn't right. Unless you have a few tools to block off the carb, exhaust and have a pressure tester you need to at least check manifold pipes, impulse pipes and check all fuel lines. If it is till doing it get it pressure tested as its a good few quid to replace a piston and cylinder.
