Is this still possible to get done at Alice Holt? If not does anyone know other places that do this?

Not sure how thick or wide your slabs are. But, after air drying slabs down to 15 or 16%, I re-saw them into narrower and thinner sections before the final drying down to 8 to 10% suitable for use indoors with central heating. Dries quicker doing that, and less likely to develop defects such as splits, etc. I don’t have a kiln, but run a dehumidifier in the workshop and stack timber out of the way to slowly dry down to 8 to 10%. Years ago, I just used to keep the planks in the house and they gradually acclimatised before being machined to final sizes. But you might not want a stack of planks inside! Needs to dry slowly. I suspect with firewood logs the aim is to dry them as fast as possible and if they split it doesn’t matter. Andrew

Morning all, Fault on mewp played up again yesterday and I had to come down from basket on rope and harness. Time to leave it at the dealers until they find and fix the fault. Happy hedge job today by comparison.

Few emails to sort out and try to jazz up a CV to send to a few folk. Groundsfest was good, meeting folk was good, outdoor, loads of working machinery and lots of people about. Not too much arb gear but still, Forst, TP, GM and TW there amongst others. FSI and Predator there too. Got to wake neighbours up in a mo with toy car going for MOT, hope he is a tad sympathetic and over looks a few things! Wee, Arthur, Whirled.

Thanks Shavey, lets see if L&S can get the smaller parts but it's good to know you've got a whole unit so I can get the saw up and running anyhow.

I think its unlikely they will get dry enough just from being air dried, I live in Glasgow its pretty damp and the slabs are to be used in a kitchen so they need to be properly dry. @Stubby It is a concern that the moisture would go into the slab yeah, I've no experience with drying floors so was hoping someone could tell me one way or the other. I assumed (hoped!) its harder to get moisture into the timber than out so it wouldn't be too big a problem though

As it happens a refugee boat crisis did start when Maggie was in charge (from Vietnam). But as soon as we started deporting them to a third country the flow stopped.

Thanks. So just the operation of planting with shovel into uncultivated turf, broad-leaf, without guard, in area groups could be 80p to £1 /tree? Mulch mats have been used by a neighbour this last March! with a drought...so it;ll be interesting to see the survival etc. I think you are right about mulch mats, 5 pegs etc.

Have you considered that the moisture being driven out of his logs could then be taken up in your slabs setting you back ?
