reversing a chipper

well i think its about time i posted this up. even tho im probably gunna get the pee ripped out of me ....

 

has anyone got any tips on reversing a tipper van with a chipper on the back. its really dificult to see anything out of the mirrors and a block back window from the chip box.

 

it wants to jack knife al the time . i can reverse my ifor williams twin axle trailer no bother just this chipper is proving difficult.

 

any tips or advice

Fit some flags or other form of markers sticking out from each side of the chipper so you can see it in the mirrors.

Chippers tend to have a relatively short drawbar and as such “react” and are gone beyond recovery before you can react.

 

If the chipper is narrow you can fit these to improve its visibility.

Take the reversing slow and steady, avoid “big” steering

if you have a 4x4 pop it into low box and reverse. Its slower and easier to stay in control

At last someone else who has "The shame that dare not speak its name" it can be a real pita,

especially with a landy 130 which has the turning circle of a supertanker to start with,

by the time you see it its too late, often I get pee'd off and push it by hand to save diesel.

another trick it to tip the tipper slightly so than you can see the chipper it is also handy for hitching up and just play and you will get better as a kid it would get borring rolling a feild so we would do it i reverse

do it slower & keep the chipper in 1, mirror ,simple wen you gey used to ,

Our 110 with a tw125 on the back is a real arse. Have a tow ball on the front bumper now for sticking it away in the shed which sure helps.

If its sunny look at the shadow when you are straight, and then use that as a guide when reversing.

i have a double cab transit tipper ,the body is a fair bit wider than thE chipper when it comes into the mirror vision its nearly to late . good job i normally have it on when theres two men in the van so we end up un hitching and pushing in the drive .
