Hi, I'm 23 and desperately trying to find a way into the industry. I've put myself through my CS30 and CS31 and looking to gain my CS38 and CS39. I was wondering if there were any trainee positions going anywhere, I've called a couple places up but have not had any luck so far. I would also be interested in doing some groundswork work purely for the experience. Thanks!

Hi there, My name is Reece, I'm 24 and looking for a way to get into tree surgery. I am based in Llanelli and have my own car so can travel for work. I am also able to stay near Porth for any work experience opportunities. I am physically fit and willing to work in any weather conditions. I currently work as a hedgelayer in autumn and winter (so I have a bit of experience working with chainsaws and chippers and have my own MS 251 currently) and do footpath maintenance, fencing and drystone walling during spring and summer. I currently hold my CS30 and (at the time of posting) doing my CS31 and I have my CS38 and CS39 booked for June and early July. Afternoon all, just wanted to through some feelers out before I do a proper search and ring around. I'm due to start a level 3 arb course at bicton college in september, but need to do 45 days work experience. With a company local to North Devon I live in ilfracombe but have my own transport. What I really want to do is work everyday I'm not at college (if I can earn some money doing it, the 45 days is unpaid) I've been offshore for the last 7 years so a change of industry for me want to be closer to home. I'm good with knots a grafter and can work hard! Im 25 so you know your getting someone mature. Been working with saws for a few years looking after grandparents land just firewood ground maintenance hedges etc. always maintained my own saws and sharpened my own blades anyone that can point me in some directions would be massively appreciated.

Hello Everyone, We are looking for capable tree workers to join or team due to months of work backed-up, it will be a better job than you have now with better pay, please only apply if this sounds like something you would like to experience. We are a friendly Arb Approved company in Wimbledon covering various client bases, but with a distinct lack of posh houses, we work in parks and London estates more commonly. We would really prefer a driver with no points, with a fair amount of experience, but not averse to a trainee with tickets. Hello fellow tree people! I have recently qualified in the following City&Guilds / Lantra courses: CS30/31. Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting. Felling trees upto 380mm. CS38/39. Aerial rescue and aerial cutting with chainsaws. Woodchippers. I'm looking for work as a trainee, or with a company that will give me the opportunity to develop my climbing skills. Ideally in the North West area as I'm based in North Manchester. I have experience of ground operations from working with a local domestic crew, and would love to expand my horizons into commercial, utility and especially conservation work. I have a car, my own PPE and climbing kit. I'm reliable, hard working and keen to learn. If anyone knows of any opportunities that might be available it'd be great to hear from you! I am happy enough to start of doing 1 or 2 days a week on a voluntary basis. I have my CS30 and I am aiming to do more tickets but I am reluctant to fork out the money at the minute with no way of putting what I learn to good use. I have done a couple of trial days with a company but didn't hear anything back, I work hard and wasn't told anything negative on the job so I assume it was my lack of experience that has failed me here. I have also emailed all companies local to me but have not heard anything back and trainee jobs/apprenticeships seem to be non existent in Northern Ireland Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Hi, following a change in career, I am newly qualified with CS30/31 certificates and looking to begin work as a groundsman. With my sights set on undertaking my CS38 Ariel rescue course as soon as possible, I am also first aid at work trained, hold a MEWP licence and have experience towing up to 750kg MAM. I currently live in Winchester but willing to relocate for the right position. Preferable areas of work would be Hampshire and Wiltshire. Admittedly I have little experience except for some work experience with a local firm, however I am no stranger to hard work and long days. Hi all, currently looking for someone to take me on as a trainee arborist. Currently i work as a self employed gardener, and have been for the past 8/9 years. Looking for an opportunity to switch in to arboriculture. I'm 29 years old, used to working outdoors and can graft. I don't hold any tickets at the moment, but would be happy to train. Hi all, my first post here! I recently decided to explore the world of Arboriculture and after doing a large amount of research and spending a day with a local Arborist, I quickly realised that this is an avenue I want to follow. I'm 23, and at present I have a good understanding of the job, but little experience, no equipment and no qualifications. I am eager to change this as quickly as possible. I work an unrelated retail job, 3 days a week. I'm in a fairly fortunate position, in that I am able to reasonably support myself on this (Although I don't have a disposable income), leaving myself time to work any opportune groundwork/labour jobs that may come my way. Should Arboriculture become a solid job for me, I'd happily leave my current job to make it a living. I'm fairly well read on what qualifications and skills are required to make myself attractive to a prospective employer, but my question is primarily pertinent to the progression one should follow in order to achieve this as quickly and cost effectively as possible. I understand that there are employers who will take on trainees/apprentices and partially/entirely fund their tickets, but they still seem to expect candidates to be qualified in CS30/31 and Climbing/Aerial Rescue. This immediately requires me to drop something in the area of £1500-2500 on PPE, climbing gear and training before I'm at a stage where I am even a viable candidate. That's a lot of hours to make up! Don't get me wrong - I'm not opposed to an initial outlay if it is a sensible and worthwhile one. My question is whether I'd be throwing money up the wall, and if you would do things differently. I'm also aware that I can work as a cheap labourer while I build up my funds and equipment, which I fully intend to do. However I want to make myself as employable as possible, because I know that a brash dragger is only worth so much when there are more qualified groundworkers available. I apologise for rambling, and I'll attempt to summarise. How would you spend your early time and money, in order to make yourself an attractive candidate to a prospective employer? Cheers guys! I've not long been back in the UK after spending the last few years working abroad, chasing snow and adventure. I am now looking to pursue a career in arboriculture. Hi My name is Henry, I'm 28 and currently live in North Norfolk. Last year I completed a ten week course at Otley College, Suffolk, achieving a subsidiary diploma in Arboriculture with CS30, 31 and 38 and first aid certificates. I worked as an arborist/trainee climber for three months after completing my course, where I carried out a range of tree work from ground work, clearing and some felling as well as climbing; pruning, thinning, dead-wood removal and a couple of small dismantle jobs. I am currently working on a farm, throughout the harvest period but wish to pursue a career in arboriculture. I will be available to work in September. I am looking for a position ideally with plenty of climbing, and hope to complete my CS39 assessment ASAP! However, I would be happy to do any form of tree work as long as there would be potential to progress. I am fit, and hard working and used to working in all weather conditions. I have experience using tractors and other agricultural machinery. I hold a full UK drivers licence and hope to obtain a B+E trailer licence as soon as I can.
