Am I wrong? Are you suggesting it goes to the NHS or the injured persons? It is stated in the HSE docs that it goes to them to fund further HSE enforcement/action. Should be on their website.

Which ones did you buy? Was it the 18v kit? One thing I dont like is they often have multiple tools of a similar price but different quality. The HP001 is the pro grade combi drill while the HP002 is homeowner grade with half the torque. I'd say the 40v 8Ah, 2Kg does count as high capacity. A bit heavy for most uses, but you'd expect that with 20x 21700 cells inside. They also do a 32Ah backpack battery.

I dont do much rigging. To be honest if its time to swap saws I 'd usually set up a friction saver, go down for a coffee then back up with the saw on harness.

40v will have better power. Theres no such thing as free energy, so with higher max power, the runtime will be less. A 40v 2.5Ah is 10 cells, same energy content and weight as the 18v 5Ah. The 5Ah is double the power and weight and is a bit too much on the arms for the hedge trimmer So I'm mostly using the 2.5Ah and 4Ah. The telescopic polesaw and long reach have better spec than the power unit and attachements, but they wont go in the boot of car or easily in a van. Its a little annoying that the s/s has a lower power but its adequate. However the safety turn off after two seconds is quite irritating. I'm waiting for a call back from Makita's tech team before I apply some tape to the switch!

That videos in wet mud. I'd say it doesnt have the power (tho wet mud is somewhat sticky) and spins too fast. I also bought the HP001 combi drill, while I wouldnt drill auger holes with it, it has the same max torque listed. Heres my petrol one. Hard dry clay with roots and stuff.

Anyone still using the Makita top handles? I am tempted to get one and a free battery would help, but it seems they are worse than a 2511 and twice the weight?

Yes they are, I already have one free battery and waiting on a second which should be here next week. That was from buying the UX001 power unit and UG006 hedger, both are very good. I want to buy the UC029 pruning chainsaw, it has the same power listed as the old 18v top handle but much smaller and lighter. It seems they wont be selling it in the UK. Theres also a promotion on the 18v kit however that seems to be only on bundles, not bare tools. I bought the 18v s/s power unit, they declined the promotion, so I returned it to amazon!

Fair enough, I had better experiences with my 372 clone, I prefer only buying second hand if its someone I know. Lots of stolen kit floating around that I dont want to touch. If I see something on ebay, I ask for purchase history/invoice and rarely get a reply. Anyway, what have you bought? Tree shedding leaves in May. Worried.

It doesnt appear the soil level has greatly changed as you can see the buttress flare, But that is freshly dumped clay so perhaps the roots have been disturbed or cut. There are lots of old pruning, flush? cuts mid way up the trunk. Theres also bark damage quite low. -
I already have an Echo 2511 climbing saw. I like the idea of a spare clone for any abuse work but the ones on ebay at £200 are too much. I have bought from Farmertec before, and see they have added a clone G2511, works out £92 delivered.

That will just ruin the rope putting twists in it and wearing it faster. You could swap to a rock climbing 8 decender or belay device but thats extra kit to carry about.

You can do the same thing attaching any normal pulley, or just a carabiner to your harness bridge, tail of rope and sending down a loop. The problem is you need 3x your height in spare rope, and I'd rather use shorter ropes.

Fit a hidden tank/filler and use the normal filler opening and tank as a urinal? That will give them a suprise.

@Mark Bolam One of the UK's most significant trees? It was a relatively young sycamore. The only thing special about it was the location and peoples memories of it. Somone should grind out the stump and plant a nice oak in its place. Only Daniel Grahams, as he told on the other one. Not for protection from angry tree huggers.

I would suggest 2 years suspended with a fine and large number of hours community service. The interesting thing is Grahams has been in custody since December for his own protection after being attacked?

Quite enjoyed it to be honest. Thick leather gloves really helped for the brash dragging cleanup. Should have worn sleeves or a jumper but was too hot. I have thorns in the outsides of my elbows! More experience on a ladder which I'm not too good at, and got to properly use my newish hedge trimmers and pole chainsaw. However the hedge does look awful, holes everywhere, ivy has taken over and the old hedge has long rotted away in places. Best you can do with that..

What remains of the tool, do you have a photo? Is it just the soft, lead? Face thats broke off? Whats the body made of, plastic or metal? LSE sell the screw in type made of plastic for roughly 24 pence. A pair of long forceps may be able to get in there, grab hold and pull it. If its not blocked and you can turn it to the ports open, get the exhaust off, and let it fall out the port

I have 18" on a less powerful saws. 20-24" but cutting will be slower. You could go bigger with a skip chain - half as many cutters in contact, will keep the chain speed and cutting performance up as if you were cutting smaller logs. With that, 24 or 28", but I would suggest a bigger saw.
