Are you sure about the warranty? Seems odd that it doesn't mention that in the Manual or Stihls warranty guide. It even says on the stihl site that it is designed for the hardest conditions of forestry and saw milling. The product page even says it can be fitted to a saw frame?

Okay so for those that have seen some of my other posts you may know where I am going with this. I need a new saw and I was eying up a 661 but I have been asked about milling by a company that makes worktops etc and they need someone to mill timber in the forest and have links with other companies in the same position. They've been trying to find someone to do it for them but can't. This has made me consider stepping up to the 881 and buying an Alaskan mill as it could open the doors to some side work. At the same time, I am also thinking if really I want to do milling as it seems pretty brutal on the saw? Are there tricks to make it less hard apart from the additional chain oiler? Cheers!

I've been on the lookout for a winter version of the 661 but to no avail. I emailed stihl asking about stock but they never replied I was wondering if they were about to release a super secret 662 or a mk2 661 with some mods as it seems odd for there to be no stock like this

I get where you're coming from but a tube would mean that you wouldn't be able to connect a carabiner to the bigger hoop on the rope bridge.

I've never tried it. To be honest I don't know anyone who sank £420 on one pfanner bluetooth headset when you could buy the sena set and have dual channel sound and all the mod-cons with it

Jake brakes basically change the exhaust valve timing so instead of suck, squeeze, bang, blow its more like a Suck, Squeeze, Squeeze, Pop... Don't start me off on euphemisms here. It keeps the exhaust valve closed on the blow/exhaust stroke and then the valve pops open when the piston is near the top so you effectively have 2 compression strokes, one after another. More compression=more braking How any of this helps a guy chose between manual and automatic I don't know 😂

Upload some photos of the oil pump, pipes, oil tank from the chain side etc etc. "Chinese saw" means about 1.2 million dodgy saws. If we know what we're dealing with you might get help?

Richard Branson can't run a company for Sh*t. I was running a contract at Flybe (owned by Virgin) when that collapsed. I was there the day before when the chauffeur driven top bosses came to the shop floor saying the company was in dire need, I was in the pub that night watching it collapse and I was there the next day helping guys load their toolboxes up in the car. Luckily I kept ontop of paperwork and bills and made sure I got my ounce of blood.

Sounds like a good plan. Personally I have always driven Manual unless forced by company cars etc etc. This thread has made me want to move to auto in the future. Why work harder, it's a work truck not a bare bones sport car

I guess so, I mean, you still have to create compression in the pistons, run the alternator, AC bla bla blaand I remember from an off-roading course I did it was referred to as "engine braking" but I suppose true engine braking is Jake brakes on a big cat diesel (they sound amazing btw). What's the term for Alternator/AC/powersteering/Fan/Engine/Gearbox/Transfer box braking anyway? 😂

I've got on well with the Arbortec stuff. I know people say "It's not waterproof, bla bla bla" but this whole breathable thing is a bit of a joke. If you're wearing your waterproof jacket when it's dry then it will breathe, but lets face it, your not wearing your waterproofs when it's dry. Goretex etc only breathes when it's dryer outside than in, hence "moisture wicking" if it's raining and it's wet outside then the outside of the jacket is going to be wetter than the inside so the sweat won't evaporate through the jacket as water doesn't wick from a dry zone to a wet zone. You will know how much you sweat when you work, it's A LOT hence why you get wet inside. This is where water repellent coatings come in and having the water bead but after you've worn it in a tree 5 times or it's humid outside it won't bead so much so you need to recoat it or put it in the tumbledrier etc. I tested my new arbortec jacket after so many poeple saying "It's not waterproof" by putting a dimple in the material on the side where there's a sew line and seal and pouring water into the dimple. After about 3 hours it was still dry inside, that answered my question. I often read reviews of people saying that the jackets aren't waterproof but they just haven't grasped the basics of physics.

Depends what you call "All terrains" Unless you're climbing over rocks or descending downhill a lot it won't make much difference. Only thing you really lose in an auto is the engine braking which is useful on descents. Autos can be better for rock crawling though because it's not on/off like a clutch and you don't burn the clutch up. Lack of engine braking why they started fitting them out with hill decent control which automatically applies brakes for you but it's not the same and in my experience the hill decent cut in sort of suddenly then I lost traction because it wasn't a smooth brake like engine braking in low range (2.2 ranger)

Surprisingly yes. It seems to include bamboo in it's list of plants it enjoys killing anyway. For bamboo it recommends you cut it down and apply neat with certain products. I don't make the rules 🤷‍♂️
