Witterings, what a relief you're asking about tree felling. When I read the thread title I thought it was the dog's wotsits in question!

It can have its place but in my experience people have the expectation that it's a silver bullet, a cure to all their issues, and are surprised that surgery hasn't resulted in the perfect dog. This is how I feel life with dogs should be, and it is possible without an operation

Are you sure the mulching blade is fitted correctly? If it isn't centered it'll cause vibrations. I've used an fs100 which is 30cc to do all the work you mention so I doubt engine size matters much. I'd check the blade is balanced first, or see if it vibrates with a different head fitted.

I think credit to you ABtrees. If something is in trouble and I can do something I will, be it helping the situation or ending it humanely, I dislike seeing anything in distress. Saved a hedgehog from being throttled by a baseball cap a while ago, it visits the back door every night at the moment for peanuts so I'm glad I did. Probably 20yrs ago I started thinking about an isolated walk I hadn't done for a while. After a week thinking about it I did the walk and found a very young deer had got its head stuck between a gate and post, I suppose mum had jumped gate and the little one tried to go through the gap. Obviously it had suffered a horrible few days dying of hunger. That really bothered me, still think of that regularly and really regret not doing the walk sooner -
Had another peek at this nest earlier, it's had some work done to it and 2 more eggs added

Can't comment on the cost of this but if you could give more detail/pics of the situation it'd help others. What is in the area around the base of tree, how close can the equipment get, what is the access like (width of gates/passageways) is the type of thing that may help

Good that she's getting some benefit from the Yumove. Had Santi on the standard ones initially for a year or so but found the 'senior' version last year and they make much more difference. He has Metacam/Loxicom when required too. We did around 5 miles today in the hills and he never stopped, long may it last. Rampoozeling, not heard that before but what an excellent word!

He's doing well David, gets some medication for the old joints and doesn't spend much time swimming now (couldn't keep him out the river until recently), but still enjoying big walks and very playful for his age

Had a walk at a Tilhill site Santi was off following his nose for a while. He has a helpful habit whenever he doesn't know where I am, of howling like a Wolf until he can hear me call back. Can be very eerie, the call of the wild.

Had it all today. Sun, rain, hail and briefly some snow. Around 6C but with the wind it's feeling much colder.

Lovely dog, have you found the Arbdogs Pics thread? Has anyone been involved in a woodpecker ring? My Mum showed me you can use a stone in each hand to tap a tree and imitate them, when there's several around pecking in sequence to establish territory. She also did similar with owls hooting but I've never managed that.

I have access to well rotted manure and woodchip that's a few years old so I'll get that done tomorrow. Will let you know how the tree gets on, thanks everyone.

Thanks, credit must go to the arbtalk advisor's for the clear instructions! Khriss, the wire pulled underneath to separate it worked so well and was met with applause from the onlookers 👍

Just an update on the Rowan, it is now in its new spot and the move seemed to go well. Followed the advice given here as much as possible, and with the assistance of 2 excellent machine drivers who couldn't have been more helpful, things went smoothly. Dug out trench around drip line with digger, then dug/pruned by hand to leave this... Wrapped in terram with strops under root ball to lift... And gently placed here, digger never touched the tree directly. I will stake it for support and water regularly. Fingers crossed.
