  1. 2 months since its move and the little Rowan has been slower coming to leaf than the other Rowan Tree in the garden, but it's really got going now.
  2. Pruned an old Apple tree today for someone in the town where I was born. I said I remembered delivering The Express to the house when I did my paper round and it turned out it was the clients father that the paper was for. She told me he'd done a lot of research about the property and showed me some documents he'd obtained that noted the Tree was planted almost 100 years ago by someone from the town with the same surname as me! Quite a coincidence.
  3. They're quite different looking eggs from the thrush Gary, another learning day. That blackbird I was talking to beside the thrush nest must've thought I was daft!
  4. Agreed, I stand corrected Billhook. Had assumed the nest belonged to the blackbird hanging around close by, but I think you're right. Having compared them on an egg identification site the nests are similar, but different looking eggs.
  5. Park the land rover on the Whitehouse lawn Khriss, Biden will just roll over
  6. Maybe he'd seen the documentary about the Mary Rose, that wood lasted well in water!
  7. There's a climber somewhere that asked "where's the silky?" but nobody knew where it went. Maybe the Forensic officer will find traces of the climbers blood on it and they'll start a murder hunt
  8. I've been impressed by the hedgelaying stuff on here, and it's been interesting to hear about as there is little evidence of it locally. The Borders has an abundance of flailed or overgrown hedges, or just rough fences. This week I've been with a local company who have a young lad from Kent working as a groundie. He is very keen to learn hedgelaying, and said he's being taken on as an apprentice by Scotland's only commercial hedgelayer who is based in the Borders doing blacksmith work, but travels the country plying his 'laying' trade. It's a shame there's not more of it done up here, to me a layed hedge looks so pleasing to the eye and must be the best solution for a boundary as well as nature. Look forward to seeing more on arbtalk.
  9. Scottish Borders (thanks Stubby). Town called Melrose is where I live. Been the complete opposite weather today, by 9am was working in a t-shirt and had to put the dog in the shade, lovely!
  10. 7am was nice but threatening Rained most of the day. 7pm it had cleared
  11. They look so peaceful after their Sunday morning beasting!
  12. That look says it all. Do I have to visit la boucherie myself then? Hope he got une sausisse in the end!
  13. Was in a tree being removed from against a tall hedge (busy with nests). Had a male blackbird spend a lot of time in the hedge next to me watching, just making sure I wasn't a threat to his clutch of eggs, assured him I wouldn't cause any trouble. He seemed quite proud.
  14. Glad it's not just me! Told someone I was 44 recently, had to retract that a few days later when a friend pointed out I'm actually 46
  15. Have driven a hilux with the air bags on and it was impressive, had some big loads and never looked or felt overloaded
  16. That's how my dog looks when he farts, he then cautiously sniffs his tail before looking at me suspiciously
  17. Have known guys that thought they couldn't function through a day without being wasted, joint before breakfast to start the day and a few in the pocket to get through it. Not for me, I'd never get out the house if I did that
  18. How are things Sam? You've been quiet, made any progress with the treework

I'm not too bad thanks, would rather be working a bit more just now but I'm well.

I know it's difficult but try to keep positive, if you don't keep trying you have zero chance of success!

As for not fitting in here I think you're wrong, you bring a "sunny" feeling with your input and I get the impression that other members think the same. You've got interesting stuff to say, be nice to have you around more again

Awwww I have missed you crazy lot 😂 I am just catching up with the jokes and laughing away like a nut 😁 has work declined in your area then Doug ? Maybe you could get a second job as a stripper or something 😂 x Thankyou for your positivity x I approached my rich brother in law with an investment idea to start my own business but has decided to buy a hotel instead on the Island called (The Wellington) he offered me a job there so I could escape the council but I prefer being outdoors 🙂 I will keep studying and hopefully find a little place with a team eventually x Thankyou for your kindness

      Stripping! 😂

Thanks for the suggestion but I'd have to pay people to watch!

Best of luck to you, it'll work out.

  19. In my experience it's the other way round. The older people I know are completely aware of what seasoned wood is, and many could ID it from looking at a log. The younger people are less knowledgeable. One of my neighbours (40's) asked me if I knew what was wrong with their log burner as it wouldn't light, I said it was probably the softwood logs that weren't seasoned (I felled and rung up the tree for them 6wks earlier). The response was "but it's firewood in a wood burner! We'll need to get someone to look at the stove". And a friend in his 30's bought a house, I did some tree work in the garden and he was left a decent pile of rounds, with instructions how to split and stack for seasoning from me and his elderly neighbour. The pile got swamped in grass and nettles til you couldn't see it and a few months later he asked if it was ready to burn. His elderly neighbour and I raised an eyebrow.
  20. Well worth watching, what a remarkable man.
  21. Was a lovely day here earlier, proper snowing now and minus temperature
  22. I just can't believe Buckles is the 4th man
  23. Late night visitor enjoying peanuts, had a fox beside it briefly but I wasn't quick enough with the camera
