  1. So it’s a mk4, so happens I’ve got a 97 model, assume it's petrol, even so that is crap consumption as mine has done 140k from new (when I bought it) and still gives me 60 plus to the gallon on a run, it’s a diesel though and pulls like a train. NoPedigree
  2. How old a golf? Sounds like the thermostat is not working right, try starting from cold and feel if the top hose gets warm quickly, it shouldn’t. Had an old triumph torledo many years ago and swooped the thermostat every six months, one for winter one for summer running. NoPedigree
  3. The pioneer can be fitted with an external air supply kit although not something I've bothered with. I'm in an older house, insulated but far from airtight but I think older (20year plus) houses need to breath and the air the stove takes helps with this. I also have a Franco Belge in the lounge which is cast iron but controlling the burn once going is an art, I'm sure the seal between the cast body and the top plate allows air in so when lit and upto temp I shut the slider fully and control the heat by the timing of stoking, number of logs and size. The other think I don't like is the top plate is not smooth so kettle and stove fan do not make the best contact for heat transfer. I will replace it sometime with a clearview 500. NoPedigree
  4. Well following the photos you look like a vandal, stripping the light off a public tree, stealing it and planting it in your woodland, you should hang your head in shame ? NoPedigeee
  5. I was having issues for a couple of weeks with " server not found"message from 8am to 8ish pm and thought it was to too much traffic ( all other internet stuff ok) not had a problem for the last 4 or 5 days. NoPedigree
  6. While I'm all for real fires for heat surely getting some insulation in the loft is a quick, cost effective hit to make the vast amount of wood you are currently getting through ( and it ain't cold yet) go further?? regards, NoPedigree
  7. Hi All, Unfortunately while a local building supply firm was delivering sand and cement last night a hose on the lifting arm gave way resulting in the newly built wall, pillar grass and road getting a good coating. The manager come out and while the driver used sand and his spill kit to contain the oil from running to far down the road he reported it to the local council. Later two young lads polled up from the council (it was dark then) saying all they had was granules to put on the oil, pointless as it had been covered in sand to contain hours before. I left then shovelling contaminated sand on to their truck. This morning in day light 80% of the sand is still there and the mats and “sausages” from the spill kit remain. Should the council carry out the clean up, obviously charging the company or their insurance? Any suggestions what to do or tell the supply company to do to clean up the brickwork and more importantly the lime mortar used in the wall? Do I just leave the grass verge to allow the weather to wash the oil away over time or will it die off? Any input would be much appreciated. Regards, NoPedigree
  8. Currently there is only my 1994 mercedes SL280 with 52,000 mile on the clock, its powered hood is a thing of beauty to operate and a joy to drive with the hood down. I will soon be getting (inherited) my Dads 1969 MGC roadster, one owner from new with the Austin Healy 3liter straight six engine and overdrive down here too. I don't want mice etc feasting on wiring and other bits! regards, NoPedigree
  9. Hi all, Does anyone have any recommendations and or experience of these devices, are they effective? Got a couple of old cars in the garage plus other kit and would like to deter the critters taking up residence. Cheers, NoPedigree
  10. Must admit to feeling a little smug having managed to secure upto two years heating oil ( depending how cold the winter will be) at .20ppl together with 4 plus years stacked wood for the two stoves, free bar time, effort and fuel for the saw. By more luck than judgement I susspect I will never be in the same position for the same expenditure ever again. All I need now is for the 26 year old Rayburn to keep plodding on, touching a large pice of oak while crossing fingers! NoPedigree

  12. I bought a clearview 500 25 years ago when free firewood was everywhere as not many stoves about then. Moved house a few times since then but my old man got the same model a year later, still going well and looking great despite being worked hard all its life. Obviously had a few bricks and baffle plates in this time but top stoves in my view. In process of fitting a clearview 400 in my conservatory and replacing the lounge Franco belge with a 500. regards NoPedigree

  15. So I have just been into Tesco Honestly it was shocking - they had no toilet paper at all. Reluctantly I headed for the customer service and asked if they Had any. A firm NO and a look in disgust was the answer. Walking back to the toilets with my pants and trousers around my ankles was a walk I never want to do again.
  16. Checked on a spares website and that indicates the 2004 3 ltr model has four glow plugs try checking one of these sites and using your reg number it would at least tell you if you have one per pot or one in the Manifold ( I would have thought this was an outdated preheat method. 17. Replace the holder and give the wiring a good coat of looking at. There is too much load going through the fuses so I susspect a wire earthing some where. If nothing visable take some time troubleshooting, run at idle, have blades running, then collector etc and feel when the holder heats up. I had a clicking soi on the starter late last year and suspected the battery, the ignition lights still came on after being left for 5 plus months this spring so charged the battery and checked some wiring. Found a loose earth bonding strap to the engine, cleaned up the connectors to the battery and the spade connector on the thin wire to the sol. Not had an issue since then. If you have a leak to earth it may just be your battery is not getting the charge it needs. Cheers Nopedigree
