  1. Joined 5th December, posted 2 questions, never been back... I reckon so to.
  2. I'm afraid. They are just Leylandii, sorry. (Added the correct punctuation here now that the thread appears to have run its course.)
  3. .... Still staying at home watching Antiques Roadshow and screaming at the internet... actually go to the beaches? Get off their back ends to do something to fix what greatly upsets them? Nah, not even a letter to their local politicians, no thoughts to suggest realistic and practical changes we can make to reduce the small boat crossings. Nothing. Zip. So we get: 'Still screaming at the internet...'
  4. But this is a digression from Dementia Don, lets see what this week brings and the Epstein photo albums.
  5. Storm wasn't for 4 weeks! At the same time, legal migration, the ones actually coming to steal our jobs has fallen in the last year, from the 600k the Tories left to 200k now. Well done Labour. EDIT: In the last 7 years there have been bigger storms, storms that have lasted longer, worse weather than the last 4 weeks, this is why this is newsworthy. Bigger and worse storms didn't affect the small boat crossings for as long.
  6. ???? You would have thought that would have been mentioned here wouldn't you given the intense scrutiny channel crossings receive on this arborists forum.
  7. Thought so, Mr Rightard, you double posting tonight?
  8. Ahhh, Liverpool. 2 sets of PJs, bed time ones and ones for best, going out PJs.
  9. Yup, think bark free surface area - the more the better
  10. This is true, we have lost all the concessions that Thatcher won for the UK, we would start again as a new member including things like taking the Euro. Once out, no going back under the same terms and conditions. If the politicians (listened to the current 'will of the people') worked to go back again I reckon all our past membership would give is a fast track membership. The Brexit vote was a hastily thought thing to appease the Tory back benchers giving Cameron a hard time, his gamble failed, and as they say, act in haste, repent at leisure
  11. Load of poplar, to me the smell was a bit 'sheepy',
  12. Not really, as far as I can tell none of the other Presidents, or other world leaders feel it is necessary to take regular cogitative tests, they have nothing to prove, and nothing to hide. Now as for 'voluntarily' I am not sure how much he phoned up the doctor to say "hey, can you test my mental state again, 3 months since you last tested me". Sure, regular doctors appointments, keep him fit and healthy, but... there are no 'regular check ups' in the world where they test your mental abilities... every 3 months... unless the doctors are worried and monitoring you. Just accept it that Trumps team are worried from what looks like onset of a dementia, are testing him for it regularly now, and that we should be worried that the man with the nuclear button isn't all there. As you say there, at his age there is an increased risk of him loosing it.. and we, the world, should be prepared that one of his minions might be stepping into his shoes when he does so. I reckon for the thread started out as 'next US president' then these observations are relevant and worth noting.
  13. Worrying that the most powerful leader in the world is loosing his marbles is nothing then? Commander of the most powerful military might not be all there... and that those around him are worrying as well should be a cause for worldwide alarm really. How many other world leaders are subject to repat cogitative tests then?
  14. A third cogitative test for Trump this year - surrounded by 'many' doctors. I'm not at that age yet but how many near 80 year olds are taking routine cogitative tests as a part of their medical care? and how many do 3 in a year? I put 'many' in quotes there, worth this bit of humour - of these many doctors, 'some of them' Trump 'didn't know'... because those that he does know of course only give test results he likes - perfect physical health, foot bone spurs, acing mental tests... and so on... and then last week he was given a special award...
  15. Yes, I saw that last night somewhere. Roughly 50-50 vote, the old voted 60-40 for Brexit, the young the other way, 40-60, balanced out with a tiny majority to Brexit. 5 million old people died, 5 million young people are able to vote now gives a theoretical remain majority of about 4 million if the vote was now - assuming those who have changed their minds either way balanced each other out. Considering that the young will inherit and want to be a part of the EU we should pay attention perhaps to this.
  16. There are a few places that will repair batteries. Not sure how comfortable I'd be sending dodgy battery through the post but you might get a local place you can drop it off at. Think my brothers work gets their sent away to be repaired or has someone on site that will do it. Probably cheaper....
  17. ... in the neighbours garden
  18. Yes, another vote for splitting now. I'll add to stubby.... driving rain off certainly, airflow is more important but if it is stacked, only the top couple of logs will be affected by normal rain, the rest will keep drying if you cannot get it under cover. Even today after this weekends storms the lower parts of my log stacks are surface dry.
  19. Always the problem with these types of questions the world over, what does "best" mean to the OP - is the saw for personal use, perhaps cutting to length split firewood, 6' from a power supply, or does he want to use it professionally. Though from the answers above, and the £600 budget there are only a coupe of choices. Perhaps need the OP to come back with more info what the intended use is to go from there. I doubt now that they will be back though, been too long ignoring the thread.
  20. We would if it was about territory like in the Ukraine, but if it was about neutralising us then no, a few grenade launchers shot at a nuclear warhead will do next to nothing. And if we are defending alone against an actual invasion, we are pretty fcked anyway, with France and Germany probably already overrun and the US abandoning us. So rearming is all about defending others, which I believe we are doing with giving some things to the Ukraine - our kit, their people.
  21. Verstappen is similar, his very rich dad paying his way. Am glad Norris won though - cannot get to the top of any sport without a bit of talent, but to get to the very top you need some ££ behind you to do nothing else apart from that. Hoping Hamilton gets some decent development time this year to make his car suit his style better, feel he has another 2nd or 3rd place left in him Feel a bit sorry for Piastri though losing out second place - but that is racing I guess - Norris got a new suspension part way through the season about the time he took off, so perhaps he had the better car at the end? Personality wise, yup, not a lot there. Though is it a generation / age thing that he hasn't developed a media presence or personality yet? (see this in work, it takes the graduates a few years to come into their own - aging and maturing - and more age again to get proper sarcastic about the job)
  22. Yes, get it running and someone off ebay will take it. Conversely I might have just been lucky.
  23. It doesn't get so much use as it used to, but I've had a MS181 for about 12 years - just domestic and smaller firewood, doesn't miss a beat still, but as Muddy suggested, maintenance is the key, perhaps missed out if the tool is in a 'disposable' price tag? Service and clean when it needs it, OEM recommended oils, sharp chain and watching how much you abuse it, should last pretty well... However for just around the garden if I was to recommend anything I'd go battery as well.
  24. Depends on the lengths and species, anything up to 4' or 5' length depends on the species and diameter will usually split OK. Note that that was a comment before we got a few more details of the logs he is wanting to cut. I'll often do a few longer lengths - holds the wood piles together better - cut just before use.
  25. Yeah, with logs that size it will eat through the batteries. They're generally good for anything less than the supplied bar length, 10" or so? If you look at the thread I linked too, I think the suggestions in there might be useful for you. Something like the Stihl MS261 (with 16" chain, rather than the 18" option that is often suggested) - assuming most of the logs will be on the 2' side of things rather than 3'. But for that kind of work your budget will be similar to what was asked there,
