  1. The differences between winter and summer cut wood are many. For firewood it's less weight to move and less water to extract. For milling as above and the boards are more stable. Bark will strip easier from summer cut than winter cut for most species. Recently discovered large mature beech trees will split more readily when summer cut, as well as being incredibly heavy. 2. [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51]
  3. I've only had my licence 15 months. I have a tipper, I pay about £500 a year 3rd,fire n theft. And I live in Huddersfield. Arborisk [emoji106]
  4. Anyone got an educated guess at age? I'm presuming 300-500+?
  5. Saw these yesterday. There was at least 7 or 8. Couldn't believe the size of these trees. In the first photo, the dbh is about 10'. The others are at least 7'/8'+ dbh. The burr on the last two photos is about 8' across. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  6. I'd go in about 2k, With an option of: If the trunk is worthwhile milling knock £200 off. [emoji106] The phrase "put the logs in the garage" is a red flag. In 6" split pieces, stacked.... [emoji51][emoji848]
  7. Epic stuff mate. Nails... [emoji848][emoji51][emoji51][emoji51] [emoji106]
  8. This is the only tree I've ever climbed for a job. No ppe, ropes or harness. At the extreme limits of my vertical ability.[emoji848] At times I was up to 4' off the ground!!! Mrs Miggins was very impressed. [emoji12][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  9. Bit of burred birch and some nice oak. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  10. You can look on the stihl international websites at which countries sell which saws. You can still buy a new 051,070,720,780 etc But not a single one sells 090's. I've looked. Philippines is your best bet of getting a new 070 then upgrade the engine, re drill the mounts etc. But it won't outcut an 880. [emoji106]
  11. I remember that on the news. Explaining how it looked like a fighter jet on radar... [emoji51]
  12. The last time I saw a genuine non fuelled 090 for sale, it reached $4500 at auction. Didn't meet reserve price. Unsold. [emoji106]
  13. My local stihl dealer down south, said, we are aware of the internet, we will match realistic offers. But actually a lot of our consumables are cheaper than tinternet. Now I'm in a bit more of a favourable situation, I make sure he's earning a better percentage. It's back scratching. And I use my new area local guy for random bits needed today. Co-operation it's the future. [emoji12][emoji106]
  14. The 070 and 072/720 are still in production. But not the 090.
  15. Don't use a paraffin heater on a boat. Carbon monoxide killed a guy I know on a boat. Get a CO meter.
  16. I've messaged the guy. He's full of ... Reckons it's new from USA. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
  17. Here's an interesting fact. With advances in genetic testing.... We are all descendants of a woman who lived 200,000 years ago. Also we are all the descendants of a man who lived 90,000 years ago. We are all cousins. Every human on the planet. Good morning cousins [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  18. 100% fake. Look at the chain brake handle.
  19. I reckon it's Chinese. In the last photo, you can see the clutch plates are old and worn. The top handle is the wrong shape. The side nuts look wrong. I'd be cautious. [emoji51]
  20. There's a horse logging thread on here somewhere [emoji106]
  21. I was going to post that, but thought no one would know the reference. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  22. It is poplar though, not oak. [emoji12][emoji848][emoji106]
  23. Spotted these on a building site on the way home. One shiny twenty pound note, two happy builders. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
