  1. I'm sure it will be fine and fit you requirements. I was looking at simular machines and ended up with a elu dah 176 which works grate. Take your time to set the machine up properly and you should get good results.
  2. TonyIOM: what wood is that? Very nice
  3. In the walnut tree you get the dark timber in the middle and lighter coloured round it that's what I mean. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=american+black+walnut+log&biw=360&bih=640&prmd=ismvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj367-pz-3OAhVG3SwKHS4SCFkQ_AUIBygB#imgrc=leiBeSEmUWll3M%3A
  4. So its more like the sapwood of the walnut rather than the darker Heartwood?
  5. your probably right thankyou for you detailed reply
  6. very similar yes what is that?
  7. I thought of walnut but there's just too many different colours in it and too light I think the tables were pretty new also having no damage to them in a busy pub.
  8. Visited a pub for tea while I were away camping on holly island and came across these solid wood tables but have no idea what type they could be any ideas? Pics dosnt do them justice thanks for looking and any comments.
  9. I think they would need to be jointed (flattened) first you carnt just send them through a thinknesser and expect good boards.
  10. Get some wax or pva on the ends ASAP to stop the wood cracking and splitting any worse. Mill it up will make nice timber and upload the pics
  11. Is the heartwood harder then the sapwood or are they the same?
  12. Looks good keep the pics coming what wood is that btw?
  13. The mill should have more cross braces from front rail to back rail that would almost eliminate the problem.
  14. Check out mtmwood on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/user/mtmwood/videos
  15. Looks amazing what was it like to turn, is it wet or dry?
  16. I'd say 13 foot pic might be a bit deceiving please measure now tho.
  17. For milling small logs iv screwed a batton to the bottem befor. Obviously goes without saying make sure you don't mill into the screws.
  18. Might be more hassle than its worth at the end of it all.
  19. Beautiful cherry one of my favourite woods hope you find a good use for it.
  20. I personally couldn't justify the price of a alaskan as a hobbyist so being prity handy myself I made my own version of it tig welded steel tube stainless fitting and fixtures etc iv never seen a alaskan mill but I carnt emgine it being any stronger then mine and cost under £20 in parts, a pic of being made.
  21. Yes I have what's the chances of that lol.
  22. Hi anyone got a blown saw or spare muffler they wouldn't mind selling me? Many thanks.
  23. Yew dose turn really well looks good but won't it warp out of shape as it's drying with it still being wet? Iv only turned green wood oversize (10% wall of diameter) about 1" then dryer it out were it has gone ovel twisted etc then returned it to its final shape etc.
  24. Ya like balsa classed at a hardwood but actually one of the softest woods there is I were just talking in the sense of actually being hard or soft at a timber etc.
  25. Thankyou for all the comments am I right in saying it's not a hardwood?
