  1. I wonder how the uk firewood producers compare to foreign companies abroad. I take it there alot bigger abroad due to more wood and more houses with fires I.e the Scandinavian countries.
  2. Gotta say the last two days have been lovely as it not rained, really hoping for some cold though I must afmit lig sales aside I quide enjoy the cold, just the rain and mud that annoys me, must be one of the wettest Novembers/Decembers on record and the warmest haha,
  3. first time ive eve seen one ive gott say its seems like a good invention trning a load of rubbish into a marketable product. Any idea how much they are
  4. Ive always wondered who/ os the largest firewood company/ yard/ set up in the uk. Certainly wood comes to my mind when thinking of it. Any ideas guys.
  5. The other thing I notice aswell is the 880 s width, dont know if any of you noticed it was abit more awkward as its wider aswell as obviously longer, I noticed it straight away when I first used one
  6. Oh right ill bear that in mind next time I upload, cheers mate
  7. Tbh ive never really hearrd of the thor log splitter let alone seen one so I went on you tube and had a look at some vids and ive got to be honest I wasnt all that impressed, it seemed slow and didmt seem very strong, obviously you can never know how good a machine is without using it yourself. I dont know how much they ars but for a tractor mounted splitter I highly recommend the ktm splitter either 10 or 14 ton and there around 500 quid brand new and in my experience are very simple and reliable. As for petrol splitters oxdale look decent
  8. Hi nick, how much would it be to where were based in Hertfordshire postcode, en10 7qn. And how many loads have you astill got up for grabs. Cheers regards william.
  9. what part of it do u enjoy, is it the processing part or the selling and delivering part or all of it. me myself i quite like all of it but my favourite part is doing the odd day of coppicing in the woods out of the way of everybody and everything haha
  10. been pissing it down, everywheres wet and muddy and its been mild, wish we could have some snow and cold weather not just for log sales but i much prefer snow to bloody rain
  11. Haha yh we find its the best way of drying the loogs, when there outside the water just washes through taking the sap and dirt with it anf it allows loads oc airflow!! On a serious note ive noticed all the pics ive uploaded are upside down, anuone know how to change this
  12. Here are some pics of the piles weve got, got more than that atm aswell but no pics to show, should hopefully be enough this winter but where we have run out of room in our two large barns theres alot of stuff outside although the stuff outside will should be for next year and the year after but we just keep selling out snd even with the wet stuff theres people that dont mind buying it and either try and dry it out by there fires and burn it or which is up to them or they stock it up for the following year
  13. As your someone whos had the imported stuff, what is it like, are there any problems with it getting wet and moulding on the shipping over, if you need it quick can they be reliable to get it to you quickly and when you want it obviously does it burn haha;)
  14. We have both the 880 and 661. The 880 is good for cutting up the big logs we get but I mostly use the 661 as its quite light for its size and power. I do try and avoid the 880 as it is a white finger saw but when we get stuff in at like 6ft and 8ft butts in like we did a couple of months back it does come into its own especially as we have the 30" and 46" bar on it. We also have the 441 and 650 and 362 and a450. Out of them all the 661 is the best by far and ive had it since November 2013 and its used most days severy day so ive definitely got good experience with it
  15. Chers for that A, I just fint it amazing how cord can be so high yetimported timber is relatively cheap and its delivered to your door. Also o make it more profitable using cord what price per ton delivered would you need it to be
  16. For us we are selling more than last year although it dosnt feel as busy, but thats due to evolving and becoming more organised and as for the sales becoming more and more popular, but im suprised that u guys are seeing a 50per cent drop, then again they said it was meant to be the coldest winter in years, about time that comes to fruition dont you think!
  17. I dont see how a foreign company can cut spit, package, dry and then ship the product over here and out compete our prices leaving some to reject the british cord, which is completely understandable, as business is business. The other thing I was wondering is I wonder how many hardwood woodlands we have specifically for commercial firewood production,
  18. With there being more and more houses being built and a larger population the firewood industry should grow almost by default but that only depends on houses being built with a fireplace, which id say only more up market houses are having them built in, as for supply I cant see how we will need to start relying on imported timberdue to lack of british supply, its just the high price thats spoiling it, which I dont understand
  19. Weve got the ktm tractor mounted splitter which is 10ton ithink. Very good value for money splitter but only problem has been the shaft with the splitter head on fell out ofthe ram twice but all sorted, easy to take apart and sort. Been very interested in oxdale splitters as they promote an english built product and there blue ( favourite colour) but in pics they seem abit weak structurally. Hopefully going to the lamma16 show in Peterborough in jan where there exhibiting so will hopefully get hand on with it and you never know, might buy one although weve got 4splitters and 1 firewood processor so dont really need another one haha
  20. Yh its been very mild down here and ive still been out and about in a shirt, weve inly had 1 hard frost and a couple of mild frosts. The weather seems to be getting warmer in the week ahead with it staying at around 10-12c for us what was all the talk about a severly cold winter!! Ive got a feeling we will have a delayed winter and a very late spring.
  21. We have probably sold around 500 cubic metres bulk bags since August. And it hasn't been cold, ive only had me nans fire going for the last week to mainly dry off muddy and wet clothes and boots haha. Nothing like a good old fire to dry off ya clobber
