  1. Doesn't look like a wasp nest from that picture or your description. Can't shed any light on what it is though, maybe a fungal growth. Please don't go squashing wasps, everything has its' place. Think we all know the biggest pest species on this planet!
  2. I also have the 7900 and run it on a 28" bar and 36" (copy) alaskan mill. Like you say, they take a couple of minutes to warm and then clear their throat and let rip
  3. To be honest, it does look like you turned 56 weeks ago
  4. Had my 550xpg since 2012 and it has needed one brake band and that's it. Always starts, hot or cold. Makita 7900 is a new old style carb saw if you like and I love that also. Starts straight up, clears it's throat until warm and then rips away I wouldn't think twice about buying another modern auto-tune saw, but the maki has also shown me that the "traditional" saws have come on also. Will be looking at maki, dolmar, echo when/if the 550 dies.
  5. Blimey, I'm getting out of this game!! Look at the state of you old boys, I'm quitting now whilst I still have my boy-ish good looks
  6. How is doing the right thing grassing If I see a drunk, driving off in their car, I will be straight on the phone. Is that grassing, no, it's looking out for the next innocent family crossing the road. Winds me up that people feel they have to tip-toe around in case they upset someone. If you don't like the rules and regulations of the country you live in, then do one! Oh, and no I haven't used "ratedpeople"
  7. Steady on Stefan, don't blow a gasket! If the customer has already made his intentions clear about illegally removing a TPO tree, the best thing to do is inform the local tree officer. It's not grassing, it's doing the right thing
  8. Kind of obvious that the quality is going to be a little less than something costing 3 times as much (would hope so anyway). If I were milling full time, then, like any tool in full time use, I would spend the money. For occasional use and diy projects these will be fine. I also think there is a difference between cheap Chinese "rubbish" and items made cheaper from china.
  9. Just rambling out aloud.
  10. I did think twice about posting a link to them as I knew there was a supplier on here (Rob). I always try to support local suppliers and happily pay a few quid extra for things. Being on a limited budget does mean that sometimes the difference between having and not having means going cheap (as in this case). If they break up in a few months time you can all throw rotten tomatoes at me and say "told ya so"!
  11. I think they are the right money for what they are, a few bits of metal bolted together to make up a frame! I haven't seen a "genuine" one, but struggle to see how they are worth so much more and is the reason I never bought one before.
  12. Thanks guys. I will find a little barn space to split and stack a few loads. Some of it is large, so will be milling it as well.
  13. Is sitka spruce any good for firewood? Never tried selling softwood logs, do they need longer to season to allow the resins to come out? It is all free to me with good access, seems a shame to leave it to rot.
  14. I have one of these and a 12000lb winch. Portable Mobile Winch Mount Bracket Plate suits 8 - 13000lb winch WITH ADAPTOR | eBay If you have a multi-hole drop plate on your tow bar, you can leave the receiver part on there as well as your tow ball. You could also make a mount for the front to accept it. I just use a set of heavy duty jump leads to power it, suits me for a bit of log/tree pulling.
  15. Nine pages of feedback and you STILL haven't decided whether to spend 6 quid or not Your decision section of your brain must be well backed up:001_tt2:
  16. Thanks for that Rob. Will see if I can get a picture up, prefer nuts and bolts than techno-trickery I have offered up a stihl bar to the maki side cover and the adjuster peg fits the hole in the bar fine. The husky must use a larger peg. Thanks for your help, Jim.
  17. Oh well, looks like I will have to make my own
  18. Looks like a nice bit of kit and if it works for you that's great. I really enjoy filing freehand, fiddle like.
  19. Thanks, but I would prefer the ones in the latest video [ame] [/ame]

    Dolmar

Does the bigger cover and filter cost much? I bought the saw to do some light milling with. So with the extra fine dust that produces, it may be worth doing at some point.
  21. Feel like I'm talking to myself but are these listed on your site anywhere Rob?

    Dolmar

What's the benefit of the HD filter and is there any advantage in fitting a non cat exhaust to these saws, if that's even possible?
  23. Used it today with no problems. Only cut eleven 7' spruce boards, but nothing came loose or fell off and I can't see why I won't get good long term service from it.
  24. Is Rob away at the moment, anyone know?
