  1. Cheers B&M and Ty - those Oregons look good value to me. Got any toughts on boots at a simlar low budget price?
  2. Another one for linseed oil
  3. Just to clarify my confusion on maximum chain speed for the 135 is that Husqavarna have it listed as 17.1m/s and f r jones say 22.9 m/s. So if husky site is correct thats class 1 trousers and if jones is correct then it would be class 2. I guess jones have it wrong?
  4. I'm about to buy myself a husky 135 and need to get trousers and boots to go with it. As I'm not a pro, just working in the woods once or twice a week, my budget isn't big. I'm also struggling to understand matching trousers to saw (m/s saw speed to class 1 class 2 trousers etc.) Can anyone help with what class torusers and boots I'll need and where to buy? Thanks all
  5. I left school over thirty years ago and would have absolutely no idea how to go about answering that question whatsoever. ( I have an O level grade B and a GCSE grade 4 in maths). I've been running my own business since the age of 23 by the way, so if its a pounds and pence equation I'm sure it would be a doddle
  6. I love this quote from the Thread of Silk link Alec, 'With thousands of years' history, it is still high-yield, producing 6000-8000 walnuts per year, which have big size, thin cortex and full kernel. It absorbs the quintessence of the universe and contains its intelligence.' Reading that Its hard to take the claims of 1365 years old seriously.
  7. Hi Jon, thanks mate. I'll be interested to know how you get on with seasoning and burning the Pop.
  8. I've seen plenty like the one on the right but the one on the left looks very unusual. In the past I've opened them up and you do find the wasp inside sometimes.
  9. Hi Jon, have you ever seasoned any Pop? I've cut willow and alder in Spring and its been dry as abone by the Autumn. I've been told Pop is the same.
  10. I've not burnt it yet, but have been looking into it. As I understand it it seasons quickly, much like willow or alder. I'm planning on processing mine in June and hoping it will be good to go by October. Others on here will know more than me, and may well tell me I'm wrong
  11. I only found out about it this year, disappointed not to be able to go but I really hope to be able to make it next time around
  12. We'd planned on going but one of my daughters is suffering with a viral thing, kept us up all night Hopefully we'll make it next year, sounds like the kids would love it
  13. Sounds good Jon Pic would be nice. I'll see if I can get one of the goldfinch on the nest.
  14. Thats great Jon:thumbup: It would be really good for me to have all those robins in the garden. The wife and I tell the kids that the robins are special 'Christmas Robins' that work for Santa checking on how well behaved kids are by looking in windows
  15. Thanks Jon, I will tackle it carefully. It looks to me like its too low to the ground to be a problem. I'll try to get a picture and put it on here.
  16. 5 young ones Jon? or 5 altogether? My goldfinch is opposite my woodshed. I've had to stop cutting wood for the time being. I didn't want the noise to scare her off the nest.
  17. Sounds good Jon. I looked in the hedge today and my goldfinch is sitting on the nest. The kids are very excited, I had trouble getting them away from her. Shes totally pulled aprt the old nest in the herb garden and used it to build the new nest. The new nest is a couple of yards away from where the old one was. Keen to see how many baby goldfinches we have
  18. Hi Jon, Maybe I'll take the hanger then and leave the other two for the minibeasts
  19. What would you leave Gary? All three trees or just one?
  20. I'm planning on having them out in the next few weeks Jon, just need some time off work Just hoping they're half decent firewood and they'll last in my woodpile for more than one winter.
  21. Ones a low hanger Jon. with the other two ones on top of the other and they go over a small 'pond', so partly off the deck. Woods a bit of a mess at the moment.
  22. Hi Jon, I have three really big Pops down in my wood. They're resting partly on other trees so off the ground. I've not burned it before either but it seems a shame to leave it to rot. Sounds like others burn it ok, but how many seasons will it keep for if its split? I'm wondering becasue I have lots of better stuff in my woodshed.
  23. You're welcome Jon. It would be interesting to know if they stay nearby or disapear. I'm waiting on the goldfinches here. The female is on the nest - looking forward to seeing the youngsters
  24. I used one for a day a few years back. Photography is the day job for me. I was teaching at a college and was in the studio all day with some students. Turned out I'd covered five miles.
