    Ticks

I found a tick having a feed on my waist this morning. Probably picked it up in the wood yesterday. It didn't want to let go but got it out by rubbing with soap on cotton wool. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem and any advice on how to avoid ticks or get rid of them?
  2. From what I've seen of it the essentials seem to be a bivvy, bedchair, lagers and a portable DVD player for the porn
  3. Many thanks for the very kind offer Stoke Wood Project - alas I am in Norfolk
  4. Ah...right...thanks John
  5. Thanks EdwardC, I didn't know that - but I was aware that I'll most likely need a felling licence. Looks like I need to arrange a visit from the FC
  6. Cheers all, Lots of good advice as always and lots to think about
  7. Great story Codlasher, thanks for that, inspirational. A mate and I have been logging up a fallen poplar in our spare time the last couple of weeks. I went into the wood yesterday, took my father-in-law for a look round. Had to beat my way in and the little pile of logs in the five acres made me feel like gnat on a cows backside. It would be great to get some paths and start to make a real difference...
  8. I have access to a ride-on, so that would work well maybe, once I have it opened out. Its the opening out that may be the tricky bit.
  9. Thats what I thought Spandit - frustratingly my Dad said a friend of his wanted to take a walking party (30 folks) into the wood yesterday but they couldn't get in. I'm thinking if I could get some paths established then invite some walkers in that would really help.
  10. Thanks Countryboy - I hadn't thought of a digger. I don't have one but I guess I could hire one for a day or two. How many yards did you clear in a day?
  11. Hi all, At the moment my woodland is pretty difficult to move around in - nettles everywhere. I've been for a walk in the village nature reserve today (lake surrounded by woods) and I'm noticing the paths are well established and clear, even though theres trees and undergrowth all around. Question is how do I get my wood to the same condition? I'm thinking brushcutter? spraying? Getting as many folks as possible to walkthe newly made paths? Any thoughts?
  12. Ok mate, no worries, thanks for thinking of me anyway
  13. No...they'll demolish the bungalow...friendly fire
  14. Yep, I think Ebay and Gumtree are worth al look
  15. Hi Richie, I'm 32 - 34 depending on the make. Standard length.
  16. Cheers Robin, Ill check them out
  17. Not my imagination then Dad is telling me the boiled linseed doesn't last anywhere near as long as the plain stuff, but he did say the plain linseed oil takes a couple of weeks to dry. The English summer being what it is I won't be doing mine until I put it away for winter, my backside is going on the chair while the sun is shining
  18. Thanks Gnome, Will check those put now
  19. Thanks Jesse, thanks Foureyes I have an oregon helmet and ear protectors, also have gloves, so I think its just the trousers and boots I need. I'll have a look at the treehogs, sounds good
  20. Thanks foureyes - thats what I was thinking. I reckon I'd rather stretch to more like £100ish and get something that would be more comfy. I don't fancy working in the wood in July and August wearing those wellies - could be the worst fifty quid I've ever saved
  21. I got that wrong, my imagination. He says plain linseed oil not boiled.
  22. Think about it I have a feeling my Dad was telling me the other day that he mixes oil based paint into the linseed oil to give a it better lasting colour . I'll check on that with him.
