  1. Hi Jon, As TTS North says you can do it yourself. There are a lot of sites out there like Wordpress that you can use. I did mine myself, only touble is it took me two weeks so I would have been better off to pay an expert
  2. Thanks mate Any good places you know in Suffolk, even the south, would be interesting to me. Cheers
  3. Thanks Sloth, I'm between Dereham and Norwich. I'm looking for really special trees or sections of river, that kind of thing. Not neccesarily well own 'beauty spots' but more indivduals favourite 'important places'.
  4. Thanks mate, Outer space, now thats got me thinking...
  5. Not sure what to make of it yet Jon. Until I talk to my accountant I don't know how the changes to dividend income, corporation tax etc will effect me. What do you think?
  6. Hi All, I'm working on a photography project at the moment. In essence its about 'Nature' so I'm looking for great locations. That could be tree related, but doesn't have to be. It could be amazing coastline, rivers etc. Ideally they'd be in East Anglia, but open to ideas. Here are a couple of images I made today down in my wood to give you an idea. Any suggestions most appreciated.
  7. Ok mate, give us a shout and lets see if we can sort you out:thumbup1:
  8. All the best mate, my uncle had it done a few years back - hes right as rain now
  9. Ok, well maybe best if you come and take a look if you're over my way. You might find a bit in the wood more easily than me
  10. Ok mate, I'll take a look - is it only elm you need?
  11. On second thoughts there may be something for you in the wood
  12. Probably not that long mate, I'll measure the biggest bit for you. I'd guess 48-60" I'll get back to you
  13. I'll have to measure for you but my guess would be 12 inches
  14. That was my second thought timbernut - although I gave a couple of lengths to a mate and he says it split no problem. It was also in good health, I think, un tip the wind brought it down. Quite a decent size for an elm isn't it?
  15. I don't think its softwood, its very heavy. At first I thought it was oak but the barks not right and it doesn't have an oaky smell
  16. Could be - it was growing in a hedge on the edge of the wood, so that might figure
  17. This tree came down in the wood a few months ago. I'm about to log it for firewood but I don't know what it is. If anyone knows that would be useful - always good to know what I'm burning for the next time
  18. Well what happens for me Stubby is that I have a woodstore next to the house. That holds about seven cube and is open to the elements on five sides and has an airgap under the roof, so the wood gets lots of airflow. Then I have another stack of split wood (3 cube) stacked under a tarp my Dads place. Theres also my woodpile there. Then I have another stack in the wood itself. From time to time I get given wood so the temptation is to get that straight in my woodstore at the house if theres space. If I do that I cut down on the double handling, but I may be burning three month seasoned wood when I have two year seasoned wood elsewhere. The birch I split three weeks back is now at 29% (middle of log) so no problem. obviously I can't do that with the oak though
  19. Right , they're not prescise are they? You'd get variations between different moisture meters from the same bit of wood.
  20. Ok, so if you've got 70 degrees in the kiln with a breeze and 25 degrees with a breeze outdoors then the kiln would dry maybe three times faster? What difference does humidity make to the equation?
  21. Thats my understanding Wood wasp - its a simpe measurement of resistance between the two pins isn't it?
  22. I don't think it had a manal, ots pretty simple. Just a couple of spikes to whack into the wood and an on button really
  23. Well the surface area to volume calculation is certainly going to have an impact however my suspicion is that the birch would dry faster even if all the logs were the same size. More tests would be great
  24. I don't know - how do you find out?
