  1. Sorry to hear about your health troubles Trequip - I wish you well with your recovery. My Dad had a quadruple bypass and my family too have a pre-disposition to heart problems. If you don't mind me asking I'm wondering what you mean by 'ignored my health' Do you mean smoking? unhealthy eating? If I'm asking too personal a question here I'll undertsand if you don't answer. All the best
  2. Are you saying that if the tree officer comes and looks at it, and doesn't put a TPO on it, then in effect the LA has consented to feling it?
  3. It would be great to meet you Eggs. Lets have a brew and a walk the woodland (I've noticed your careful choice of wording for Felix's benefit ) one weekend. I'll pm you my number.
  4. Yes it is Eggs, Send me a PM and I'll have the kettle on If you're interested come and have a look at my wood
  5. Just realised that one with a yellow ribbon must be an old pic, the pub is painted green now, not white.
  6. Interesting and fast community response today. We have a 'save the conker tree' Facebook page and folks are tying ribbons round the tree to show their support. The plan is to call in the press. I afraid there are no naked ladies chaining themselves to it just yet though...
  7. I'm getting impression that getting the naked women chained to the tree may well be the answer to this one
  8. So which institution offers courses that cover the academic aside of the industry?
  9. I'd like to be able to do that Matty, but I can't as I'm on holiday at the moment. I'll see if a friend will go shoot some. To be honest it looks very much as it does in the picture I posted earlier in the thread, just a little bigger. If it was in my wood it wouldn't be giving me any cause for concern and I'd be very pleased to have it.
  10. We'll be doing exactly that first thing tomorrow morning Hodge
  11. It may not be a report thats specific to that tree Philip, it could well be part of a village wide survey to be fair. At he moment I don't have all the facts.
  12. I will try to gather nore of the 'facts' Treequip and let tou know what transpires. i expect that things will be clarified over the coming days and it may be that I don't have the full story as yet or that I don't have a full understanding of the situation. My personal opinion is that the tree should stay but thats an unqualified opinion and I could be wrong.
  13. I've only recieved the news today Wood wasp and I'm only just gathering together the information. My understanding, and I have this secondhand, is that the neighbour has requested that the tree be felled (I don't know why) and that the PC has, subsequent to this, commisioned a tree report. They have then authorised the felling of the tree. This appears to be he first that anyone has heard of the situation so people are feeling, understandably, annoyed. There is a PC meeting in a week or so, it will be very well attended I feel. It may prove that the tree does need to be felled...we will see. To my mind its important that that decision is reached collectively and through due process with regard to the legality of any course of action. At the moment thre does appear to be a groundswell of opinion amongst our village 'community' that the tree should be preserved. Of course there is always the danger that emotions run high, somethng that I personally will always try to avoid, hence my enquiries.
  14. Well thats an interesting point Ian...I expect that may well be a possibility. I can’t speak for others but personally I've spent a lot of my career in academic institutions and thats taught me the value of conducting thourgh research. Its something I constantly impress on my students. Of course your research may well not affirm your preconcieved notion....
  15. Thanks for your opinion Treequip, I value your response. I may be wrong about this tree, we shall see.
