  1. Thanks Paul, yes, will do. I need to put this ipad down and go get some.....
  2. I will get some pics up soon:biggrin: Justthought I'd get some general thoughts first, helps me know what to take pics of
  3. Hi all, My Mum and Dad have three trees in their garden that are of possible concern. Tree number one is a Scots thats about sixty feet tall. Its only around fifteen feet from the house and around ten from a power cable. Its very straight and in good health. Would its size and position concern you? Tree number two is a a Whitebeam around twenty five feet tall, thats leaning towards the house, its about fifteen fet from the house. It was straight until about a year ago went it leant over a little - is it a concern? Tree number three is a Cherry, again about twenty five feet tall, it has an area of rot in the trunk - I can push my finger into it to about half an inch depth. Its standing straight but the leaves are looking limp. I can get some photos bit thoguht I'd ask a general question before I go too far. Cheers
  4. That sounds really good Jon One more thought - I reckon don't buy too much gear, nothing worse than humping loads of tackle around. If you're barbel fishing you need to be mobile. I love the freedom you get from that. Its worth having a look at Chris Yates book, 'How to Fish' or watch him on TV. Hes really into watching the river or lake and the fish. Hes not much interested in tackle, interesting character.

Thats what I've been wondering about Marc. I've had a look at the tick remover tools and htey all seem to have a twisting action. I'm off to the vets this afternoon anyway so I'll ask what they have when I'm there
  6. I think it would be only polite to go for a whole day Especially Considering as Jon is coming such a long way, and hes been looking forward to it for such a long time, and he hasn't been fishing for years, and he really needs some help:thumbup1:
  7. Hi Jon, The Shimanos are one of the best but I use Okumas, very good IMO and cheaper I'm a bit like you, I stopped fishing for twenty odd years then got back into it six or seven years ago. Seems to me the kit is much better and cheaper than when I was a kid.
  8. Hi Jon, Have a look at the John Wilson Avon quivertip rod by Masterline. I have one and its fantastic. It has five or six pieces that you assemble in different ways to make different rods. So, you get a barbel rod and a quivertip rod and a float rod etc. Its really, really good and well in your budget I would think.
  9. don't tell her its a hobby Richie. If you could put a five pound salmon on the kitchen table, like that bloke, then surely you're making a valuable contribution to the family

Thats the same as I had. As you say good to know what to look out for. I thought a bulls eye rash was a little 'bulls-eye' but looking at that website seems more like the whole bliking dartboard to me.
  12. Biggest fish I had was caught on strawberry flavoured luncheon meat. Friend of mine caught the twenty pounder on black pud (he owns a B&B so it was left ober from a breakfast:thumbup1:)
  13. Well I'm onthe river here so I've never got as far as the sea. My neigbour goes Bass fishing though. Sometimes I get a Seabass filet passed over the hedge I like the idea of eating what you catch.

Fearsome I will go get some
  15. Sounds good Richie. I've got the Wensum very near to me. Biggest I've had was 13lb 4oz but I've seen a 20lb fish landed. Mind you that was five years ago (I have five year old twins so not had time for fishing much). I've heard the otters have decimated the barbel round here sadly. I have a mate who fishes the Wye evey year, tells me its ace
  16. Have you thought about Barbel fishing Jon? The Wye can't be far from you. Thats arguably the best river in the country for barbel, and barbel are the best coarse fish to catch (IMHO).

Thanks Chopper - good advice. I will do as you say. Just goes to show the nonsense you find on the net. I looked online this morning to see how to get it out and I read that you should put soap on cotton wool and rub it with that, so I did. It was a tiny one, not seen them before. Only ever the big ones on dogs and cats. When the cats had them I've put the vaseline on,I thought that worked. When I was a kid my Dad used to put a flame on the ones the dog got. Looks like those are all bad ideas.

Do you just use it on the dogs Jon or on yourself if you get one as well?

Ok, no ring as such, its a little red at the moment but more like a light rash colour than an infection. The middle is raised, bit like a spot really. I'll keep an eye on it.
