  1. Hard to say without knowing his overhead costs. The lads will probably only see the "I can make another £30 + an hour doing it on my own" In our workshops they are paid in the region of that rate, (slightly higher) and we charge out at £45 per hour plus vat. However not very often every hour of said day is chargeable, the employed person is paid for all of the day, the employed person only works 11 months of a 12 month year, they get a pension, fuel coverage to - from home, then your business rates, premises lease, van lease and all your insurances. And that largely all needs to come out of the gross profit on labour. The gross profit margin is very quickly reduced to very little.
  2. Tracked EVO 165....
  3. Agreed. It will indeed.
  4. Going forward, anything new over 25hp will require a DPF and other “cleaner burn” add ons making your compliant 34hp engine in the region of £3,000 - £4,000 more expensive. That’ll tip your average new 6” machine over £20,000 net ex vat. The Evo 165 has the new, legislation compliant 25hp Kubota V1505 engine. It doesn’t need all the clean burn stuff which keeps the cost down. The new flywheel in the Evo weighs twice what the Arborist range (130/150/150p) weighs, recycles the chip less around the flywheel and throws it better too. The r&d they’ve put into that is impressive. Something like a 8” machine and larger equipment will need all the clean burn and the prices of that equipment will unfortunately be more expensive.
  5. That’s diesel. The new Kubota V1505 25hp. Granted it was a straight piece. We didn’t take the video, the customer sent it to us whilst he had it on demo. As videos were being asked for felt it was at least worth posting. The Evo 165 has horizontal rollers. It is definitely aggressive on pulling the material in ?
  6. Probably just the noise of the flywheel / the air it creates.
  7. This customer just chopped his 2017 Arb 150p out for an EVO 165 with us. And loves it. IMG_8915.MP4
  8. You're kind of comparing a 7.5" 37hp chipper to a 6" 26hp chipper.... The Evo 165 is compliant with all the latest / forthcoming regulations. The 540 is 37hp? On any new models they will either need to be reduced to 26hp or have DPF etc adding an additional 3-4k on engine cost...?
  9. Having just mechanically restored a part exchange TW190, a properly serviced and setup TW190 will be more productive than a TW230.
  10. We have a TP 215 in our workshops for service this morning. It is a lovely, well built bit of kit with some nice features. Understand there is a change of dealer for England now and no longer JPW.
  11. Your man here is chipping to the back of a transit which is approx. 13ft? Appreciate the green conifer is dropping closer but then I don't know a chipper which doesn't do that. The chute flap is positioned level so it stays in the bed, if it was opened another 20 degree it would obviously fly further. But then, why would you really need to?
  12. Forst no doubt are giving "top money" on their used machinery in part ex, however with a couple of hundred used machines sat in stock, unsold you could say they have been giving unrealistic values in a bid for new machinery sales? How long can you give top px values when you already have a couple of hundred in your yard? I don't know any "plant" manufacture with a used stock inventory like that.
  13. That they definitely, definitely do not. Try getting someone to underwrite a Forst apart from Forst themselves who strip them down and completely rebuild them. (As per their own latest YouTube used machinery video) Getting a TimberWolf, Jensen, GreenMech, TP, Vermeer etc underwritten is a piece of piss.
  14. Pretty sure the Contractor 750 wasn't actually 750kg ?
  15. On the 8" + chippers we quite like the Bandit. Look after a couple locally around here.
  16. Although they might be a distance away, they'll most likely come to site in the event of a breakdown, service or warranty repair. On servicing we are normally on site by 8am. Any parts you need can be over night direct from factory to you if ordered by 3pm. We now have our own eBay shop with most parts you'll need.
  17. A CS will throw chip a good 15-20 feet no problem. It’ll go further with the spout further “open“ but naturally becomes less accurate.
  18. £90 a blade. That is much the same as other brands out there.
  19. It’s a bit far fetched to say it’s a problematic engine. We have sold many chippers with that 37hp EFI engine fitted. It’s the same engine Forst fit in the ST6P as well as other manufacturers fit in other plant / Groundcare machinery. We supplied the machine to the operator who picked it up from our premises and took it to France. He had a issue with the running of it, it has been into the Briggs engine dealer a couple of times and the underlying issue not resolved. No matter what brand of chipper you buy, the engine is covered by the manufacture of the engine and their own engine dealers. Thankfully engine warranty is usually very few and far between. Its the first engine issue in the 150p we have known as a supplying chipper dealer. Typically it’s in another country and the engine dealers in France seem a little slow on the latest engine models.
  20. Definitely look at the GreenMech Arborist 130... For much the same price you can have the following extra.... Bonnet, LED Lights, Brakes, Hand brake, 6" x 9" Infeed, Adjustable Height A Frame & Locking Hitch. We have an 2017 Arborist 150p in stock with 340 hours on. It is fundamentally the same as an Arborist 130 but fitted with a 37 EFI Vanguard. Still under 750kg. £8,750 ex vat. UK delivery included, manufacturers warranty until July 2020.
  21. Loads I expect. Also begs the question, who's building these setups... And, clearly the buyer has not done any checks / research into load capacity / suitability of vehicle.
  22. Blimey! Do they take cut n shut requests?!
  23. It is a rough rule, but it'll put you in the right ballpark and you usually aren't *that* far off. Add a decimal point to the hp for fuel consumption. eg a 18hp Briggs will use circa 1.8 l/hour, a 23hp Honda fitted in the GreenMech Arb 130 will use around 2.3l/hour and the Briggs 37hp fitted in the GreenMech Arb 150p will use around 3.7l/hour. Rings true with Ashbrooke's comments above and also I know from multiple users feed back that a GreenMech Arb 150p will use just under 4 litres per hour.
  24. Does "any publicity is good publicity" still apply ?
  25. Remove sign writing, once its left your hands you have no control of it! Won't say which company, but an employee for a contractor put an old company work top in a clothing bank. A period of time later an ISIS style rebel was on TV wearing it being interviewed. To him it was just a piece of clothing, to the company it was their worst nightmare.
