  1. Hi All, I would like to know (as my new accountant seems a bit confused as I am now!) can I buy outright or via a business lease a Ford Ranger as a second vehicle for my business? I am currently running a transit tipper but its a pain for quoting and also not much use on wet grass! My account seems to think this would be classed as a car and therefore not tax deductible, I disagree. I tried to explain that my transit has 7 seats 2 more than the ranger!!! Has anyone done this?
  2. I always view my work as my business shop window, thats also my get out line if asked why I will not take the job on!!
  3. I would suggest getting your site well SEO'd and letting its search capability grown over time. If you pay for google adds it can be costly. Personally I would rather spend money via Parish magazines etc, unless you have money to burn!.
  4. Could anybody recommend a supplier, in the Hitchin, Herts area to buy in 3m poles for processing into logs please. Also as I have never purchase before, cost per ton (roughly) would be good to know. I would like Ash or Beech and have room for a mid size truck to tip in my yard. Thanks
  5. Save your money and your back. Hire a decent Arborist to come in for the day and log it up for you. It will be cheaper and more importantly safer.
  6. Hi Matt, If you are free give me a ring as I have a job on next Tuesday in Whitwell you could help-out with. Regards Warren 07900906249
  7. Looks like Spruce is the new Ash for me then, thanks!

  11. The working for other firms is a great bit of advice. You will develop at a faster pace learning from others and get a real feel for all types of tree work. Overtime you could then start working for yourself armed with the knowledge required. As for Kingswood, there's lots more training providers out there, shop around! Good luck

  16. Morning, Could anyone members give me some idea of costing per day to hire a whole tree chipper please in the Cambridge area. The service we need would also require the chip to be taken off site (approx 25 large Conifers) and has no access issues. Thanks
  17. Hi this is my tick list that I use in general, its just my guide. Like others have mentioned, if unsure do not take on the work. Good Luck. Who own’s the tree and the ground it stands on What council authority Contact the council Tree Officer or Planning department Record all details of the conversation, names, dates, times Follow up with a letter/email to the council seeking permission If required submit an application (I do these as a matter of course when in greys areas) You will receive a job reference letter from the council 6-8weeks delay Decision Public area safety Road area closure may be needed (apply to the council confirm costs) Traffic Management (confirm costs) Consider fencing of the working area to protect the public Chapter 8 signage Risk assessments/method statements May need to top up insurances
  18. I have a customer with a Willow tree, some of the branches are in contact with overhead power lines, could anyone tell me if the electricity board will cut these branches back free of charge and is responsible to do so please, as I am unsure??

  21. I am about to start selling the logs I have been processing and drying over the last couple of years, which is a new venture for me. The question I have is whats available on the market in terms of lifting the loaded bags in and out of my IFOR Williams trailer, as I do not want to have to unload the logs on each delivery? Thanks
  22. Hi All, I have various Oak slabs and beams that I would like to have dried so I can use them within my house extension, can anyone recommend any companies local to Hertfordshire area please? Thanks
