  1. Hi all I haven't had a site visit yet, though bad news the owner wants it gone, stump and all! I will try and take some of my own photos and post them on this thread soon.
  2. Hi I have just been sent these pictures but could anyone tell me what type of tree this is please. Sorry no other pics. Thanks

    moles

Hi I have been catching moles for a number of years now, they pop up in my rural garden all year long. The trick i have learn't is that when setting the traps and digging the holes its worth wearing a pair of old dirty garden gloves to hide the scent and also when not in use keep the traps is some dirt. Had some old mole catcher who I hired for the first year teach me some tips each time he came back to rid me of them for 40 pound per visit so I soon learned!! I now remove them locally as well as honey bee swarms. The mole hills are good for potting seeds also, happy trapping!!
  4. Hi I have been told that there maybe some mobile millers that service the Hertfordshire are, if true could anyone let me know who they are please. I have a number of jobs of which this service may come in handy and would like to investigate more, as this is something new to me. Thanks
  5. I am based in Herts. Not sure where I would stand legally if challenged or worst by controlling the traffic my self with an untrained team etc, pretty sure I wouldn't have a leg to stand on though. Car wise using the road around 20 per hour maybe at a rough guess.
  6. Hi I have a customer who wants a large ash limb removed, however this would involve closing a minor country lane to do so. I am guessing this is not a straight forward process to arrange with the Council, thought I would get your advice first!! Thanks All.
  7. Just watching myself at the moment!
  8. Can anyone comment on this chipper currently being advertised on eBay, as I am now in a position to buy a chipper but are not familiar with this make/model:Vermeer BC150XL Professional Woodchipper / Branch Tree Shredder. Thanks
  9. My mistake, quotes not estimates!! Thanks all so far, interesting comments.
  10. I have done a number of quotes lately of which I have been asked to rethink my price by the customer! So far I have refused to budge on my price as I have a clear margin and understand my running costs etc, at least I hope I do. Does anyone get this or am I over quoting though I am happy from feedback and friends in the business that my rates are competitive!!! It seems to me that if you ask for a quote, you get a quote and if its outside of your budget, thats life, also I am not really happy to discuss my individual costs with potential customers. Does anyone think its worth being flexible and take a hit to build up business, or carry on regardless? Anyway the work is still coming in so maybe I am doing some of my quoting correctly!
  11. I created my own name Facebook page, then created a sub business page, but wait until you get an expert response (James where are you!!!) Let me know when done and will like it!!!
  12. Hi James, thanks, what does eligible for the short url for Facebook mean, sorry I am a technophobe, when I said I was new to Facebook I really wasn't joking!!
  13. Who wants to like my new Facebook page then, anyone??????? I am new to Facebook and the Arb world though really enjoying my challenging introduction!! Thanks to all the Arb Talk members that have been good enough to pass on their advice both personally and professionally and here's to all for 2015!!! Honey Tree Surgeons Ltd | Facebook
  14. My costs are a factor as ever, the time it will take to transit have to be considered but in fairness and at this early stage the customer has already stated this for me!!
  15. It seems to me, with my own limited arb experience, that without the basic building blocks in place "i.e. attending and passing the relevant industry courses" offering such a specialised service is just morally wrong, let alone then not having real time experience that could be gained via working within a company that offers the same service? I have absolutely no doubt that there are limitless highly knowledgeable & skilled indviduals operating right now but if you wish to form yourself as a business the guidelines for such things as, Health & Safety obligations, Insurances coupled with Qualifications are in place for good reason. why not start the right way?
  16. Its a London based job, though I am in Herts, thanks all, for the advice to date it should be interesting should I take job on!! Mini chipper isn't something I have so will investigate hiring/buying one. Unfortunately the neighbours are not english speaking so this is not an option.
  17. Hi All Can I ask your thoughts as to moving waste through a terrace house as no rear access available. I have been asked to remove a large willow tree and this is the only option open to me. This is a first so I have never had to consider this in the past, have any of you had to do this? Yet to quote so will know more in a few days. Thanks
