  1. Bet your glad that’s done and dusted.
  2. Don’t buy a Flavel Rochester it has a design flaw of a unnecessary large ledge that the glass sits into, this gets a nice big fat slug of ash on it that promptly false onto your hearth and floor when you open the door.
  3. Looks good
  4. I have used a router free hand to do signs in the past, put a walnut stain in the letters to make them stand out, the ones for indoors I just waxed, Briwax, the outdoor ones I varnished. The sign you have done looks very similar to one of the ones I did, the pieces of oak were from the drawer fronts of a very old chest of drawers that was getting chucked and I rescued, well bits of it.
  5. That motor is a beast.

    ArbDogs? Pics!

absolutely beautiful So are the dogs?
  7. My willows do this as well, I thought maybe wrongly that they are not the most robust of trees, splitting and falling over at the smallest threat of a storm. In my limited knowledge they don’t age well but grow very easy. That is why it is one of the main woods that goes into my logburner.
  8. Maybe he bought it from the likes of ebay in good faith, and thought he was doing the right thing taking it in for a service, however, great result and pleased for your mate, even better if it was the thieving scumbag that nicked it that got nicked.
  9. I made a simple box on end out of sarking, screwed and glue, placed on end, sanded the sarking and then took it down a shade colour or two with some oak Briwax.
  10. I ain’t a professional tree cutter, but my amateur approach would be to secure with a rope, cut it, then winch it in, that is what I did with a similar one last year that was over my pond in woods.
  11. That’s unusual looking, I like it, I think
  12. Please excuse my ignorance, what is the difference between windfall and wind blown?
  13. They might have an unusual angle to their story
  14. Just back from walking my dog and came across this unusual fruit bearing tree
  15. Was @gobbypunk not looking for a generator?
  16. I have a 25l generic one, I found it noisy in my workshop, I use mine mostly with a small Brad nailer. I ended up enclosing it under my bench in a simple cabinet, I then lined the cabinet with an off cut of carpet, made a big difference to the noise level. You can still hear it but it is not annoying.
  17. Do Wayleave agreements come into it? So if the land owner takes an annual payment from BT then is that the same as granting permission?
  18. I have found the Charnwood to be top quality, no problems recommending them. I have also bought a Flavel, mistake, don’t buy as I have found that a big fat layer of dust gathers and gets trapped on a ledge where the glass sits in and promptly deposits this ash onto the hearth and floor when you open the door. Their customer service is poor as well and were not interested in my complaint.
  19. I likey
  20. Top thread VI, enjoying the read. Thank you for the effort in writing this and doing the work of course. Downside is that it makes me feel like I am only playing at managing my woods, although my work mainly consists of cutting back acres of rhododendron and dealing with the wind fall trees for my wood burner.
  21. The first thing we had to make in our apprenticeship was a simple drill angle gauge, the 2nd thing we learnt in our apprenticeship was how to sharpen drills. A skill that is fairly easy to learn when shown and understood, usually I find that each side is usually only requires a couple of kisses with the grinder wheel done in a rolling action, it is usually that quick and light that very little heat is generated on the drill bit. Definetly a valuable skill to learn.
  22. Get two of them as they are so cheap with that special offer, wtf £807?
  23. I can only see that one for £15 in Amazon
  24. Looks good
  25. 6kVA is a man size for a converter, I had to buy a 3kVA one for my lathe and that was pricey enough. Not a fan of generators when there is a mains supply available but it sounds like like a 3 phase genny is the answer here, and it is not that big for a 3 phase genny. None on eBay? I was lucky when I got an old Wadkin planer thickneser it was a rare single phase one, but I had to put in a 32A supply for it. I have only recently got it working as it was fairly gummed up so took a lot of cleaning and TLC to get it working right. Good luck
