  1. Yep that was back in april i think when we did that 1
  2. No , but do alot of work up there Darrin
  3. Day 2 of the windblown beach tree - Northumberland. Got all the stem picked up with the grab and taken away , the rest of the branches chipped into the back of the tranny and firewood stopped for the greenkeepers
  4. Today we started clearing up this beech tree at the golf club in Northumberland. This tree was blown over on Friday night and we had the job of removing everything. branches chipped using the Timberwolf 190TDHB , firewood in a pile to the side and the timber collected with the binderberger grab.
  5. 1.Harness of choice 2.yale xtc+ 37m climbing rope 3.2x prussik loops 4.2 or 3 karabiners. 5. side strop (wire core) thats all you need if your starting start of slow and on the basic gear , keep it simple keep it safe.
  6. I don't get it when people say that this harness is better than that one etc. harnesses are just personal preference ,just because its expensive and looks fancy does not mean its the right one for you. I climb on a petzil sequoia and my boss and someone else i work with use a Willians Harness.
  7. 1.Petzil Sequoia Harness. 2.rope+prussik 3.3m wire core flipline 4.spare prussik&karabiner. 5.silky.
  8. I use these ones (pic below) the petzl cordex climbing gloves . Couldn't recommend them enough. Great pair of gloves and do a great job of protecting you're hands and keeping them warm whilst climbing especcialy in the winter months. There are £ but are worth it because they will last you a long time if you use them for just climbing. I had a pair of black petzl cordex gloves before these ones and they lasted me 3 years then i had to chuck them due 2 a couple of holes that ripped bigger but i thing they were due to a couple of cuts from a silky. I don't use a mechanical set-up so i cant say whether they are good at avoiding getting snagged but i can remember on one of the zigzag promotion photo's the guy is using these gloves with the zig zag so i assume that's not a problem. http://i.imgur.com/2r73hER.jpg
  9. Birch Polypore - Piptoprus betulinus.
  10. all these fancy climbing systems are all well and good but just because some1 climbs on a zigzag , hitchclimber etc that dosn't mean they are a better climber. I know guys who are in there 40's and 50's who are very good climbers , they have no fancy stuff , just a simple blowline&prussik and wire core strop with a prussik as the adjuster and thats it , very simple and it just goes to show you don't need to spend loads of money and be all kitted up to be good and get the job done safely and productively. less gear less to think about and thats what i like personally. i have no problem with news systems and i dont have ago at anybody for what they climb on because its all personal preference at the end of the day , every bit of kit suits some1 different.
  11. Im 20 years old and have been climbing for a couple of years on a bowline &prussik and love it! was Tought like that in college and the guys who i work with are all the same they all climb on a pruissik. i have nothing against the new fancy kit thats coming out but i have been put off recently about the stories about people being badly injured with the zigzag having problems etc ,thats what i like about the prussik , you know exactly what you've got and how it works and its easy to tie. not to mention it only costs a couple of £ to get 1. Keep it simple and keep it safe thats what i say
  12. They say this every year , just ignore it and see what happens.
  13. 2meter length of old climbing rope with a fishermans knot on both ends with karabiner. 1 karabiner on the tool ring on the t540xp and the other end clip on to the middle tool ring on the back of you're harness and large caritool on the right hand side of your harness ,, works for me
  14. did a mucky and wet job a couple of weeks ago and my climbing rope got soaked! not used my kit since then and its been sitting in my kit bag , noticed when i took it out today it was still a little damp with bits of mold on it. will be climbing next week and looking for advice on what to do when your rope gets moldy?
  15. i have an oregon guide bar on mine.
  16. Hi Folks , i have some tree work videos which i took on my go pro hero last week and i would like to upload , and share on here for you guys to look at. i have the Gopro studio software to upload and edit my videos on . I have managed to import the videos from my camera to the software and view no problem , however when i go to the 'step 2 edit' tabe and select the 'media'tab on the right hand side to find the videos again , nothing shows up and i cant edit my videos on the gopro software , any help in solving this would be much appreciated since i am keen on uploading some to show you guys , i have attached screen shots below of what i mean.
  17. Hi guys , i have been in the industry for 2 and a half years now , started off as a groundie and then started climbing regular from august/september last year and want to get your thoughts for when it comes to removing branches with a top handle without cutting and holding , there have been i few trees i have climbed which have had fences underneith , and altthough i see alot of people cutting and holding the branches then chucking it behind them to miss the fence , but i dont like the idea of that i am worried about slicing my hand off , and just wanted to know what other options of there to removing them safely , i tend to do a step cut at the side of the branach then drop the saw down then grab the branch and pull it towards me then throw it away , any other options?
  18. Hi Folks. I have had my Yale XTC 13mm Climbing rope for a few years now and its getting to the stage where i need a to replace it. rather than getting the same type of rope i was looking to spend less money and purchase a cheeper one. I am looking at another YALE XTC rope (pic below) which is the same diameter and brand as my current rope but is different a colour and cheaper at £1.85 per meter . i will be getting it in 45meter length - the same length as when i purchased my current one 4 or 5 years ago and i am wanting to know what the difference really is between cheep rope and expensive ropes. i am not into all the fancy climbing systems like the hitch climber , zigzag etc. i climb on a 10mm beal prussik loop and always have done. is it just all to do with what machinical device you use? or what Diamater of friction hitch? , all i am bothered about is if it can get me in and out of the tree safety and easily. Cheers Joe,
  19. Bloody Ivy! , hate the stuff. Cracking video
  20. Hi people Just a few questions i have about tree stumps and what the process is when they are poisend or just left to disappear on there own and what excatly happens when they are killed by chemicals such as round up I know that round-up is applied to the stump straight after felling in order to prevent regrowth but can someone tell me what regrowth actually is? and why it happens? question 2 - if there is no chemical is applied to the stump how long will the stump take to die whether regrowth appears or not? and how long it will take to disappear all together? i know it will obviously depend on the size of the tree so if its a big tree the stump will take longer to rot than a small stump but is it about the species of tree also? do certain species take last longer than others? last question - what is the most common and most effective chemical to apply to tree stumps to kill it , i know of round - up but not seen any other chemicals used apart from petrol out of the chainsaw combi-can - does that work well?
  21. Hi Darrin , It was about 1 mile north east of Alnwick
