  2. I have used a full 5 litre container of both on the same saw (MS211) and couldn't see anydifference , i buy motomix because it get it cheaper at my local dealer.
  3. after 2 weeks waiting for the spare parts my saw is finally fixed , quite a simple fix and not too expensive , will try and be a bit more careful with it next time.
  4. I agree with Mr Squirrel. I have the husky t540xp and it is very good , plenty of power and very light. used the 201t a couple of times at work and thought it didnt have enough power.
  5. yes. i sold my hitchclimber system becasue i didnt like it. used it a couple of times so it was in really good nick and got £65 for it also sold a throwline cube which had been snapped on one side so it didnt stay open when using the throwline , didnt think i would be able to sell that but i did , cant remember how much for tho. you will always get people bidding for your arb kit on ebay. ive seen used ropes and harnesses on there which get up to 30bids on them. personally i wouldn't buy a used harness from someone i dont know becasue i dont know whats been done to it and last time or if it has even been LOLER'd and especially not a rope but there will always be people out there who will.
  6. So does the camera just stick onto the helmet ? but is there not a chance of the camera falling off if it gets caught or rubs against branches?
  7. i admire tree surgeons back in the days before health and safety , they just got on with the job. Fearless buggers!
  8. so i'm guessing that the HSWA 1974 didn't have much impact on the arb industry back then?
  9. how the camera attatch to the climbing helmet? I have a Petzil Alveo helmet and i noticed that there is a little gap at the front the helmet and wondering does this have anything to do with attaching a camera?
  10. is that the one you use ? Suffolk Matt
  11. Was watching some tree work videos on youtube of climbers using the Gopro helmet cameras and it made me really want to get one. the idea of filming and then looking back on it in 10 or 20 years time is great. what cameras do you guys use or think is the best one? i know the cheapest one is the Go Pro Hero which is £100 of the GoPro website and then there is the GoPro hero 3 white which is an extra £50 but the only difference i can see between them 2 is that the Hero has no built in wifi which would be good to have but im not too fussed about that tbh. I haven't really got a budget i just want one that will do decent video and be able to plugin and upload to computer. any advice or reconsiderations are appreciated.
  12. just out of interest , does anybody know when wire-core fliplines first came in to use?
  13. I have a Stihl 024 AV which also needs services , but cant fine parts anywhere
  14. yes i have , bought mine on ebay brand new from the u.s. the total cost was £391 and took a week and a half to arrive. Ive had it for about 4months now and it hasn't had much use , used it to fell a small birch tree in a back garden and to cut up some firewood. The only time i used it up a tree was 2 weeks ago doing a big sycamore dismantle and it worked just fine , however after that big job i noticed that the av spring on the bottom of the saw was damaged and had bent right out but i think that was my error by being a bit too rough with it by just dropping it down on my harness and it getting smacked against the stem rather than me clipping it on to my caritool. That has nothing to do with it coming from america and i have herd that it is a common problem with all t540s anyway so i ordered another av spring from honey brothers and waiting for it to arrive so not expensive to fix. if you are like me and don't want to spend 500-600 pound on a top handle then get this one , its just the same but coming from a different country. even if it does go faulty you can still take it to your local husky dealer and get it fixed hear in the uk. Here is mine:

  16. used my t540xp for sycamore dismantle on friday and after maintenance today i noticed that the anti-vibration mounts underneath the saw are damaged (see pictures below). nothing has snapped on the body of the saw , its just the springs that are damaged. I'm guessing it was caused by the saw hitting the tree when hanging off my harness. when i started up the saw after maintenance i didn't notice any increased vibration but i want to get some info on what i should do now before i use it again? is there anyway to fix the springs back to the place they were ? or should i just take it to my local dealer to get it sorted rather than ordering spare mounts and trying to fit them myself to avoid any more damage:confused1:

  18. 1.Person - Casualty 2.Person - Climbing Rescuer 3. Person - Ground rescuer Belay rescue on a pole. Climbing rescuer climbs up past the casualty using a second side strop and then installs a inchor point using either a combium saver or sling with 2 carabiners with gates opposite. the climbing rescuer then puts i rope through which he would have carried up with him through the anchor point which he installed and then connected to causality bridge on harness using a bowline with carabiner for example. the groundsman rescuer then sets up the belay system in order to lower the casualty down to the ground by tying the other end of the rescue rope to a neighbouring tree using a running bowline or a timber hitch , he then ties an alpine butterfly loop about 5feet along the rope from where he ties to the neighbouring tree and then ties either uses a prussik loop with prussik knot or a figure 8 descender device and connects that to the alpine butterfly loop using a carabiner. once that is done he waits for for the climbing rescuer to give the signal to take up the slack and load the casualtys weight on the rope. the climbing rescuer then disconnects the climbers side strop and lifts off his spikes and the casualty is safely lowered down to the ground.
  19. how many of you guys have used a stihl ms880 up in the tree? i have myself never used or seen anyone use one up the tree and was wondering how hard it is to maneuver it up there due to the weight of the saw , and thinking about how hard it is to ascend up there tree with in dangling below you on your harness. just out of interest really how you guys felt the first time you used one up a height.
  20. Can you pollard conifers? or just broadleaves?
  21. I have a pair of oregon chainsaw gloves (see pic below) which i bought of amazon for about £12 and they are a great pair of chainsaw gloves i must say. nice and light on the hands and not big and thick like the horrible bright orange oregon gloves that are around. They are also good gloves to climb with , i dont normally use chainsaw gloves when i climb , i have a pair of petzl cortex climbing gloves but i have used my oregon gloves a couple of times climbing and they are easy to use up the tree so if your after chainsaw gloves to use up in the tree aswell as on the deck then i would suggest to get the black orgeon gloves , you can find them on amazon for about £12.
