  1. Try Bryant’s of Risborough, longmoors or drop down the a34 to kalehurst garden machinery, don’t know if they do this service so worth a pre phone call
  2. The rate will be dependent on how productive you are, all mentioned above. do you take pride in your work, are you tidy? Accurate? But what seems to be missing from most is the “drive” to do this job or “mentality”
  3. The quality of materials used through different brands is questionable, the STIHL es bars seem to be okay but the rails need dressing more often than the others. I’ve found sugihara, husqvarna, tsumura and GB tend to chip small bits out the rails and nose area. If you can find a Oregon reduced weight bar that’s what I would recommend at 28”
  4. So if he is marketing the wood you would be charging a cut and extract rate this will be measured in a stack at roadside in tonnes or cubic meters, the problem you have is site access, terrain, and any other factors not mentioned before. This is all based on being productive then you earn. I’ve seen many go the day rate route, not cut enough wood, or leave a tidy site etc then only to fall out with the owner as the day rate cost is far greater than the return from selling the timber. also knowing the south east your land owner will have already contacted someone else regarding this. If you want any information please message away
  5. There’s a 325 large spline 8tooth sprocket which STIHL do, I know some Europeans use a 18” bar with this combination. hope this helps
  6. I can offer one on one training too if you’re interested. I also help out a WBO training
  7. There were a lot of 462s with bearing failures when they first came out, parts quality is very questionable of late from all manufacturers and saws are just lasting out of warranty then going kaput. phone Stihl and complain if it’s within warranty I have in the past and they have honoured the problem and dealt with it
  8. Check the pickup pipe, I’ve had a few with restricted flow from tiny bits in them
  9. Some select few are still making things out of poplar for the food industry, it seems the containerised days are long gone where it was being felled and shipped abroad but throughout this it’s still going out in 8’ pallet and clean 12s, last job I was on was on a water meadow and moving large pieces proved problematic with the machines. I don’t know if they replanted as the original plan was for the trees to stabilise the ground but with them gone who knows what may happen
  10. Fair play if you can still swing a saw about at your age 👌
  11. Loads of it thanks😘
  12. You might not have, but I know a lot who have!! Maybe your chain isn’t as sharp as you think 😉
  13. If you’re chasing a backcut you’ll end up another statistic!!!
  14. 462 is a better saw if your Stihl preference or your husqvarna equivalent , I’ve used 460, 461 and 500i of the Stihl and 375 372 576 572 of the husqvarna The 500 is all or nothing! seen and heard of far too many being crushed when people have wiped out hinges. I won’t be purchasing another 500 as the air filtration system is shocking even if you put an aftermarket one on it
  15. The rollers do work just not sure on that brand, battery grinder, flappy disc and bar in a stump vice is the mobile option I’ve found for best results in the wood
  16. Yes I do have thanks!
  17. 500i will be wanked out and in the bin within 1-2 years if your using it full time and the 461 still going, only downside is the weight and slight lack of about 2-3cc
  18. Two spaces have become available for a medium tree course running near J6 m25 south east on 19-21st September next week. Good site and proper trees. message for more info thanks
  19. how does a larger bar make it safer????
  20. Turn up prepared, spare bar chain files wedges extra fuel the list goes on. if you need some advice ask!! usually the older they are the better the advice, even if its filled with sarcasm/ profanity. measure twice cut once. no tree is the same. look after your body I know this sounds daft but handcutting is hard graft but satisfying. slow is fast but fast is slow
  21. Give it a go it’s not hard to convert a standard chain
  22. Yes bit grabby and more vibes. 80-85 degree side plate angles work well in the hardwood. personally I just use it for softwood applications, just annoying when you hit some shite those corners take some work to get them back
  23. Try the vallorbe diamond shape one, I can’t tell what you have there. Never really found a difference in from going inside to outside and vice versa. hardwood is where it gets interesting!!
  24. Are you sure you don’t have a prototype husky mk two? 🤔
