  1. If it's heavy work why not move up a few cc's? Ported 346xp sounds good. Probably performs like 60cc. 👍
  2. Heavy work you say..... Maybe a 560xp?
  3. Detailing is a top spec valet usually done before showing a classic or vintage car. What a chancer! I could recommend a midnight brake fluid application service.
  4. Mrs has bought us tickets to go and see these tonight in Oxford... must be getting old 😱....... It's a far cry from my punk days.
  5. I knew this was coming! How does one interpret and apply industry standards? Certain guidelines are very black and white i.e. If a climbing rope has more than 3 strands severed over its entire length then it is to be retired, regardless of how much of its strength percentage is in the sheath or core. Very black and white. But what about scorching on hitch cord? How do you measure that in accordance with industry standards? It has to be the examiners discretion. I recently heard of another Loler inspector advising his clients to burn off frays and pulls on climbing rope with a cigarette lighter! Hopefully there would only be a narrow spectrum of variation in terms of applying and interpreting the standards. In my case, If I was inspecting the kit of a production climber who is climbing everyday being hard on his kit, my interpretation of the same standards might vary slightly if I was inspecting kit used very occasionally by someone doing lighter work. I like to work with my clients not against them! (The few that I have, anyway). I'd much rather be climbing than trying to squint at minute serial numbers any day.
  6. I did my CS 41 rigging course not long after I passed my LOLER exams. As the cs41 candidates were all using their own climbing kits on the course, the instructor checked everyone's kit before we set off for the woods. He pulled out a piece of eye to eye ocean polyester hitch cord from my bag which I had retired after LOLER ing my own kit. It was quite worn with a bit of fraying and some scorching on it. I told him I was sorry it was in my bag as it had been retired. He looked at it and said "it's just getting nice, now. Nothing wrong with that!" I know that this particular instructor has done a lot of published, in depth testing and research into climbing and rigging ropes and their characteristics in terms of when, how and why they fail. It helped to give me some perspective.
  7. I hope I'd never have to find that one out for myself. Can you insure your conscience? I don't think my professional indemnity policy covers that!
  8. Agreed. An inspection done by the forklift guy wouldn't be valid for a start. The 3 day course is ARB specific.
  9. Yes you can LOLER your own kit but you need to be able to demonstrate that you can be impartial in making fail/pass decisions without "fear or favour". I do my own kit but it's good to get another independent inspection once in a while. The 3 day LOLER course is different to the climbing courses. You learn a lot more on the LOLER course about the nature of kit degradation, EN numbers, CE marks, legal requirements. Etc.. I agree that a 3 day course doesn't make you an expert but it gives a good foundation on which to broaden your knowledge. Believe me, the practical inspection exam at the end of the course is hard! £90 may sound like a lot to you. But how many qualified arbs do you know who would turn up to do a small tree for less than that? Another consideration is the responsibility that comes with LOLERing other people's kit. God forbid, say you missed a defect and someone got hurt because of it?
  10. You'll love the zig zag. Save you buying a swivel too as the ZZ has one built in. I haven't heard of any problems with the MK 3 as of yet. Given the way that the new links have been beefed up I think that it is unlikely. 👍
  11. Go for it! Hitch climber to Zig Zag is a good progression. The zig zag has very similar characteristics to the HC set up,
  12. A good place to start is in the bins at builders merchants.. free of course. Failing that : http://www.tarpaflex.co.uk/acatalog/One-Tonne-Bag-130gsm---86cm-x-86cm-x-86cm-FIBC1.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwhILABRDwo8mlqt6ug38SJACNSq_knI7d9OGhAgQwpDxxeUZYcEqGjtu6xYAQdBgHhTs5CBoCCe_w_wcB
  13. Tangled world of confined misery by the looks of it. Bet your topper needed a good sharpen after too.
  14. Don't ask me how but I've managed to get it done on warranty... 👍👍
  15. 😀😀😀......
  16. Ey up lads Richie's on his way. Looks like he's dropped his saw! "Good afternoon sir. How can we be of assistance?"
  17. Bump.
  18. I realised that when I tried to send it 🙂. Incidentally, one of the things that I find fascinating about the construction of Solomons Temple is that all the timbers (and all of the other materials) were felled, hewn, cut and pre-fabricated to the exact sizes before they were transported to the site. Like a giant flat pack almost!
  19. Nice work as always Mark.
  20. Here you are Stef. This should do the job.
  21. Hi all, anyone know of a free chip site near Erdington/ Sutton Coldfield / East Birmingham? Thanks
  22. Classic. 😀😀👍
  23. Many hands make light work.... Liking the perspective that the drone footage gives. Great set up
