  1. omahaalex - "Think my girlfriend has been stealing my sawdust I bring home. I found a stash she had hidden in the filter of our new tumble dryer, do I confront her? " Yes I'd definitely recommend that particularly if you have a very good insurance policy. Otherwise I would ask yourself if you are looking for a partner or a cleaner - partners are a joy, a cleaner you mistook for a partner tend to be more expensive than a cleaner.
  2. Mostly I find people take a picture of the website address rather than scan. Make sure that the website address is visible, or preferably memorable.
  3. Vermin control required, Kania type traps recommended - they kill quickly and efficiently. You will have to wait a long time to see the benefits. A decent landowner would have already been having this done. Interesting to see what happens when you don't.
  4. Try not to take a phone in that is very confrontational, you want the panel on your side. Preparation is all. Best of luck [99% of which is planning]
  5. Plan the meeting - a tip is to write the minutes of the meeting before you go and make sure you ask the questions and get the responses you expect before you leave so they match. Walk into the meeting stating how you intend to conduct yourself through this and your actions afterwards. Be co-operative and positive. "I feel sorry that we have reached such a misunderstanding that . . . . " Take notes and ask the participants to sign before they leave, they already know that this is what you are expecting. You only need note relevant facts not detail. If they aren't singed, type them up, email and ask for ask that errors are corrected. You will of course be asking to see the risk assessments and method statements, equally you will want to see the qualifications of the person making the these assessments and accusations. At all times hold quiet control of the meeting - allow them time to find out the qualifications [although the RA &MS's should be to hand and you should wait for those] Go in there knowing your case from front to back and stay calm and professional throughout. Your job in this is to make the panel realise that they should not trust the accuser and that the case you have is so watertight that the easy way out is an apology. Take no prisoners - if you are convinced your case is right then you and the panel have saved peoples lives, and you should make the panel feel proud to have taken their decision. They will deal with the manger out of shame. Clearly things never go this smoothly, but you need to play this out in your mind and have it clear as you would felling a tree with plan B's along the way. Best of luck and tell us how many lives you saved.

    Bottled it!

It was definitely a job for another day when the wind was lower and the plate wasn't moving. It was a good call. Hope the boss made it, but also hope he also got scared and realised that you were right. To me this was a job for another day, and you got out live and unharmed.
  7. Wales has a different approach to policing the various acts that apply to badgers. The wildlife and countryside act allow the destruction of animals if it is a welfare issue and the local police are understanding of this. In fairness the behaviour of badgers that are TB infected is significantly different and they tend to stand out. They are also more prone to being roadkill as they are seriously ill, which is part of the reason that road-kill badgers have a very high infection rate of TB 1 in 8 in the west. TB is not an easy disease to kill, it used to be called consumption. It really doesn't matter which animals fault it is, all that can be said is: It is safe to drink milk [pasteurised] It is safe to eat beef [tested] It is not safe to have contact with badgers in areas where TB is endemic It is unwise to allow domestic pets to have contact with badgers in areas where TB is endemic. In country areas this is dealt with locally, in suburban and urban areas it is a primarily a political issue not a health one and there is no perception of risk and to urban dwellers there is no risk. If you live in a TB area especially if you have children then just take care
