  1. Iv got an Iveco Daily 4x4 it's single wheel it's not my main truck and only comes out for off road jobs but then 99% of my work is on road Road going truck I'd have twin over single every time
  2. How about something like this...... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282325853374
  3. Twin Wheels on my trucks but if it's grip your worried about and are mainly on tracks get a 4x4 truck
  4. At Last, someone reads the posts before making comments thank you
  5. Yes your right firm,s go bust from time to time, but Iv been on 18 years now and there's still a lot of the old faces about Every now n then there's a shake up but it's not long till things go back to normal Progress is slow on LuL due do all the rules n regs plus as Iv said it's mainly geared up for engineering houses "nights" witch are 01:00 till 04:00 average due to trains running long hours in line clear "tunnels". If your working near depots at the end of the lines you could be talking 02:00 to :04:00 If the weather is cold LuL won't turn the power off at all to avoid it freezing up this happens for a week or too normally And as about 90% of contractors don't hold ticked to work days anyway as work carried out on days is restricted So all in all a complete different set up to NR Would I work on NR............never
  6. Errr No.... That's where your very wrong the railway will alway be there and will alway require maintenance And I use my tickets across to spic protect or hand back any job so far m not relying on or just specialised in one trade
  7. A lot of this sitting about in vans caper ? Iv never said we sit about in vans that's a NR thing I'm not on NR I hold the cert as NR runs along side LuL LuL is sort shift,s hence the reason it's so popular with so many people and yes the rail is very H&S and that's a good thing there needs to be s safe system of work and rules, I look at H&S as a result it brings in more income as a job that would be week is now 3 weeks Plus the rail gives a guaranteed income come rain or shine and talking of weather if it's too cold we can't work Pls stop comparing LuL to NR it's a different kettle of fish
  8. Good point but I never glotted about money and still never mension a figur for myself it was poor old bad back or back pain geezer who mension his £1500 a week
  9. I very much doubt that Iv been on LuL for 18 years I'm a SPC PWT eh & th and most important T002/3 handback engineer and have held all these certs for many years
  10. To work on the rail you need protection in place and a minimum n of 25 sec ( LuL ) of sighting time time if the weather turns and visibility is reduced then work must stop that's h&s also rain will increase risk of slipping tripping etc So no we won't work in the rain, and even if there was gang made of you lot who are super keen to crack on and work your fingers to the bone you wouldn't last 5 mins coz a train driver would report you and you'd be stopped reported suspended etc I think it's fair to say that all the guys making negative comments are making comments on a subject you no nothing about but it's Great fun reading them Remember guys there's 2 sides to every story
  11. Don't do both at same time !! Just saying what a typical shift patten is.........
  12. On days I leave at 9 to avoid traffic as I'm 30 miles out of London arrive at 10 get a bit done then slip off to the cafe get back to site do a bit then shoot off about 1 ish Last big job I was on 900m we needed to average 30 meters a day or we,d fall behind or get to far in front I try to avoid days I prefer nights
  13. We're not there long enough for the time to drag ?
  14. OMG !!!! We're NOT sitting about for "hours" we're working a very short shift
  15. Of corse I enjoy getting paid well for doing very little, I'd be stupid if I enjoyed working my nuts of for peanuts wouldn't I ?
  16. Bounce, it's extra money !! We're working rail side getting paid then wile were there we,ll do a tree job for some one and get paid on top !! Double bubble, or sell the fire wood to them for a drink etc It's divided up almost the team
  17. This maddness how you all react but funny especially little grass,s Few facts, I'm my own boss, but the guy I answer to regarding rail work is 10 times worse then you can imagine I'm not on NR I'm on LuL so we can only work when trains are NOT running "01:00 - 04:00" On days we normally work short hours due to train frequency if it's raining we can't work We hit our targets giving to us "or we wouldn't be working would we ?" My work on the rail is cushy that's why I'm there and it allows me to pick and choose my own tree Work as all of us on here enjoy our work I like to do 3 to 4 jobs a week I pass the rest on or sub out etc I probably average 15h a week rail & same on my own tree Work so do less hours then the average working week I get to pick my kids up from school go to there assemblies etc it's a real good work life balance I leave for work at midnight back in bed by 4/5 back up by 10ish nip out on tree job 12ish done by 3ish "remember I cherry pick my work" spend loads of time with family So not all bad is it and like said there's a 1000 difference contractors doing a 1000 different jobs on the rail all getting there slice, my personal no 1 trade that does sweet FA and gets paid well OTT electricians you'd be shocked "pardon the pun" what they get away with and top earning blue collar job has to be a T.O " technical officer" apox £500 a shift plus O/T It's a big wide world out there ya gotta grab every opportunity.......
  18. .........and loadsa free time Couldn't of put it better myself
  19. Not very nice skyhuck I don't need to impress no one just explaining the way things are if you don't like it don't read it simple as that
  20. Do you know your trouble Kev you care too much, just like original post just chill out you shouldn't get yourself all worked up and you shouldn't be mugging people off like you done there with that silly comment eather take it with a pinch of salt ffs
  21. Trouble is it ant bullshit I take offence to that comment
  22. Sometimes we get price work or we get a job that's say 20 shifts so if we get it done 10 days we've had double bubble Turned up to a job in December and it had already been done so we just went home and had 5 shifts each out it Don't get me wrong some jobs you can come undone on but then it's swings & roundabout,s We quite often pick up work from houses backing on to the rail so that's also a nice bit of bounce A few months ago I got paid to move 40 tonne of hard wood from site stuff
