  1. When I first got to Wytch Farm we had an ex Army series 2 ambulance. Had to be permanently hooked up to a charger to ensure it would start in an emergency! Brute of a thing! Got rid and bought a purpose built Renault. At least it started but didn't have 4x4 which was a pain.
  2. And would have started a thread on it. "Which alligator is the best, mate, thanks Jon." By Christ I miss his threads!
  3. I looked on line and found this on Flickr. This is the BP Wytch Farm fire tender we had on the Emergency Response team. 6 cylinder, if I remember, petrol which was utter madness as only diesel engines were allowed on site due to the spark risk. It frightened the crap out of me, capable of 80mph, fully loaded with a three man crew, 50 gallons of water/foam in the back plus all the kit. My gaffer told us that if you went into a corner too quickly, don't brake just hold your nerve and accelerate out of it. Otherwise the weight of the tank would have you over. We had an ex RAF one ton forward control as well, much preferred that!
  4. I found multi tip difficult to sharpen, I used to use a diamond disc on an angle grinder held upside down in a vice. Didn't really rate the disc, tried using it when the teeth were still in situ but found it awkward as the cutting wheel tended to move slightly. Multi tip are a good tooth, easy to change, just make sure you reposition them when the leading cutters are less sharp. I think if you could find someone to re tip the tip, the cost wouldn't be effective compared to getting new. My yellow jacket teeth work out around £8 each from Vermeer UK when I buy a tub of 60, you get a 20% discount. €13 plus VAT over in France for the same tooth, you might get 15 % discount. Some Brit in the north of France sent me a brochure detailing the teeth he made himself, "Yellow jacket type teeth", same price as the real thing over here.
  5. I usually get around x4 sharpenings with my diamond wheel on a bench grinder. I use yellow jacket teeth on my machines. Just don't let them get too blunt, I tend to change and sharpen after every full day's work. I looked in my knackered teeth bin the other day, I reckon there must be around x500 buggered up teeth.
  6. Heard the first Golden Oriel of the year today whilst stump grinding , wooded area facing the clients property. Hear them all the time next to my house but never seen one.
  7. Just caught this on Facebook. Who said irony is dead?
  8. Thank you, Carol Kirkwood at the Meteorological Office for that insight.
  9. Charlie waking up when heard me starting the Bbq. Wife's done well with the azaleas this year.
  10. Son! I wondered what happened to you. I'd forgotten you existed. I've still got that car, I think.
  11. Christ Alive! Imagine if all the doddering old buggers who've commented met up for a drink, absolute chaos! I thought it was only me that's gaga.
  12. I can't remember some customers from last week! I tend to remember their dogs, then I can place them. I think I live in France, it could be anywhere.
  13. Stubby, you've been 68 since I joined this forum. You were born aged 68.
  14. All you need is a couple of German E boats sailing into harbour. Then they'd scatter.
  15. Best of it is that my wife has planted out loads of geraniums, not touched by frost at all, usually they do get battered a bit. I'll trim them back tomorrow Gary. Thanks.
  16. Thanks Gary, I did think that, hopefully they'll come back.
  17. Any ideas what's caused this on my spuds? Went to work this morning, frosty but nothing dramatic at 2 degrees, same as yesterday Two varieties, Alloutte, whites and Clairette reds. Looks almost like they've been sprayed, I used vinegar and salt yesterday on our drive but that's the other side of the garden from the infected ones. Plus breeze was coming from the direction of the spuds so.not that. Never had this before.
  18. No mate, it's the hydraulic hose connectors that's strange.
