  1. Yeah, just ban all benefits. That really would be a great society to live in We might as well just get rid of the NHS as well.
  2. Are you proud to lack the ability to reason? I pointed out that non EU migration has cost the country a significant amount, you respond with "racist"... it's hardly a reasoned argument.... What would happen to the UK if we had 10 million African migrants....
  3. “Would rather have all these immigrants in the country regardless of cost”? Really? How many immigrants would you allow into the UK? Maybe a billion Africans? Can you not see that the present benefit cuts are just the start if we continue to allow millions of people in that cannot contribute? Do you think the Government has a magic money tree that allows them to pay for the NHS etc? When someone like you calls me a “small minded racist” I take that as a compliment, so thanks very much.
  4. "European immigrants contribute £5bn to UK economy but non-EU migrants 'cost £118bn'" Hi Felix, this was the headline to the article..... Perhaps if you got a calculator you could confirm migrants cost the UK taxpayer?
  5. Ehhhhmmmm, it quite clearly doesn't say that.... People here are complaining about the government saving £4 billion a year on benefits.... While non EU migrants cost far more more.... Would it not be an idea to reduce non EU migration?
  6. I hope this answers your query? "Between 1995 and 2011, immigrants from outside the EU made a negative contribution of £118 billion over 17 years, the report found, using more publicly-funded services, including the NHS, education and benefits, than they paid in tax." European immigrants contribute £5bn to UK economy but non-EU migrants 'cost £118bn' | Home News | News | The Independent
  7. I think everyone knows that many migrants are contributors to the UK? But thanks for reinforcing that point.
  8. The Equality and Human Rights Commission... "Unemployment among ethnic minorities costs the economy almost £8.6 billion a year in benefits and lost revenue from taxes. Half of Muslim men and three quarters of Muslim women are unemployed."
  9. How many unemployed do we have in the UK? The cold hard evidence says that migrants take more from the taxpayer than they contribute..... 50% of Muslim men in the UK are unemployed.....
  10. Does anyone else really think that Britain's future economic success relies on importing migrants to sell the Big Issue? If people are going to complain about benefits being cut we should all admit that mass migration is one of the reasons that the Government is cutting benefits.... Money given to migrants is money that can't be given to Brits....
  11. I don't know about other parts of the country, but the west of Scotland has masses of east European "Big Issue" salesmen. They and their families will all be claiming benefits... If we vote to leave the EU there will be more taxpayers money to spend on Brits.... How much do you think the 20,000 Syrians we will let into the country will claim in benefits?
  12. They drive on the "wrong" side of the road.
  13. no, you said the pound/ euro exchange rate was linked....
  14. I planted trees where sheep graze. I used a second stake at 45 degrees to secure the main stake. it's generally worked OK I'd imagine if you don't put too many sheep amongst the trees you should be OK.
  15. if you are talking about a 6 figure sum I would go to an Independent Financial Adviser. I've been investing for the last 25 years. tbh, your two friends sound like they tell you about their successful investments and not about their poor ones.... someone sitting in their spare bedroom "daytrading" is almost certainly a mug.... I would advise anyone starting to invest in shares to invest in a couple of Investment Trusts (they are companies that invest in other companies).
  16. I have to admit I would always prefer to use the local business even if it was a little more expensive. As for buying firewood from the Baltics.... well not for me..
  17. I think tubex are the best tree shelter... I get mine from alba trees. tbh I think all the suppliers will be fairly similar in price... Perhaps someone local to you has some used ones? After about five years some people remove them by cutting them. I've used the cut ones again and they seem OK. The rigidity of the plastic means they still retain their shape.
  18. I have to admit that I'm uneasy that "Professor Tim Sparks" concludes global warming is definite based on some photographs of trees.... As others have pointed out maybe the lack of smog has brought the leafing of trees forward...
  19. Perhaps give the logs to someone you don't like?
  20. I went to Jordan last Christmas and there is a lot of evidence that there were animals like lions etc there 2000 years ago due to them being shown on mosaics etc. there was also historical records of people fishing in certain rivers. There are no lions or rivers now..... Climate change has always happened....
  21. How long is a piece of string? If you live in a wealthy area a lot of rich dad's wont think twice about spending a £100k on a paddock to keep the wife/ daughter happy. As soon as there are trees on the paddock the chances of getting planning permission for a house will go right down.... again a 2.5 acre plot with planning for a nice house in a good area could be worth £500k.... I'd suggest that amenity woodland will struggle to get £10k an acre... How much is the paddock for sale for? If your heart is set on it and you can afford it you should definitely do it, however if you will need to sell it for your pension it might not be a brilliant investment.
  22. I don't think there are any rules stopping you planting trees on land you own. I would suggest that the value of a paddock will go down once there are trees on it... But if you have the money it would be well worth it
  23. In medieval London the Thames used to freeze over each winter and they would have special "winter fairs" on it. I believe in man made global warming, but perhaps "natural" global warming is a larger effect....
  24. would the chips not choke the fire or fall through the grill? I dare say if you put them on a wire mesh you could be ok.... I'd imagine you'd have to tend it every half hour or so to shake the ash out.
