  1. Does anyone else really think that Britain's future economic success relies on importing migrants to sell the Big Issue? If people are going to complain about benefits being cut we should all admit that mass migration is one of the reasons that the Government is cutting benefits.... Money given to migrants is money that can't be given to Brits....
  2. I don't know about other parts of the country, but the west of Scotland has masses of east European "Big Issue" salesmen. They and their families will all be claiming benefits... If we vote to leave the EU there will be more taxpayers money to spend on Brits.... How much do you think the 20,000 Syrians we will let into the country will claim in benefits?
  3. They drive on the "wrong" side of the road.
  4. no, you said the pound/ euro exchange rate was linked....
  5. I planted trees where sheep graze. I used a second stake at 45 degrees to secure the main stake. it's generally worked OK I'd imagine if you don't put too many sheep amongst the trees you should be OK.
  6. if you are talking about a 6 figure sum I would go to an Independent Financial Adviser. I've been investing for the last 25 years. tbh, your two friends sound like they tell you about their successful investments and not about their poor ones.... someone sitting in their spare bedroom "daytrading" is almost certainly a mug.... I would advise anyone starting to invest in shares to invest in a couple of Investment Trusts (they are companies that invest in other companies).
  7. I have to admit I would always prefer to use the local business even if it was a little more expensive. As for buying firewood from the Baltics.... well not for me..
  8. I think tubex are the best tree shelter... I get mine from alba trees. tbh I think all the suppliers will be fairly similar in price... Perhaps someone local to you has some used ones? After about five years some people remove them by cutting them. I've used the cut ones again and they seem OK. The rigidity of the plastic means they still retain their shape.
  9. I have to admit that I'm uneasy that "Professor Tim Sparks" concludes global warming is definite based on some photographs of trees.... As others have pointed out maybe the lack of smog has brought the leafing of trees forward...
  10. Perhaps give the logs to someone you don't like?
  11. I went to Jordan last Christmas and there is a lot of evidence that there were animals like lions etc there 2000 years ago due to them being shown on mosaics etc. there was also historical records of people fishing in certain rivers. There are no lions or rivers now..... Climate change has always happened....
  12. How long is a piece of string? If you live in a wealthy area a lot of rich dad's wont think twice about spending a £100k on a paddock to keep the wife/ daughter happy. As soon as there are trees on the paddock the chances of getting planning permission for a house will go right down.... again a 2.5 acre plot with planning for a nice house in a good area could be worth £500k.... I'd suggest that amenity woodland will struggle to get £10k an acre... How much is the paddock for sale for? If your heart is set on it and you can afford it you should definitely do it, however if you will need to sell it for your pension it might not be a brilliant investment.
  13. I don't think there are any rules stopping you planting trees on land you own. I would suggest that the value of a paddock will go down once there are trees on it... But if you have the money it would be well worth it
  14. In medieval London the Thames used to freeze over each winter and they would have special "winter fairs" on it. I believe in man made global warming, but perhaps "natural" global warming is a larger effect....
  15. would the chips not choke the fire or fall through the grill? I dare say if you put them on a wire mesh you could be ok.... I'd imagine you'd have to tend it every half hour or so to shake the ash out.
  16. If they can't live in peace amongst themselves they won't be able to live in peace with us.... Sorry, I think we should be sending them back.
  17. Is there really much of a difference between a tree surgeon butchering a tree and a storm butchering a tree?
  18. Africans having lots of kids doesn't seem to work for them. They have so many that they can't grow enough food to feed them. if you live on a farm that can grow enough food for 5 people and you have a family of ten you will starve, it really is that simple... If they had less kids they could feed them and spend more time/money on them.... Just like us europeans..... every single environmental problem you can think of would be improved if there were less people on the planet....
  19. Dictaphone to record conversations?
  20. tbh, I don't think deforestation is caused by construction in Europe...
  21. The thing that will make a real difference to the third world is population control... It seems to be that nothing we do in Africa makes a difference. In the 1980s we had Ethiopia and Bandaid, it meant we gave Ethiopia lots of food and now their population is three times what it was in the 1980's...
  22. My previous employer told me I had to turn a blind eye to safety issues. 6 weeks later I was handing my notice in and starting a new job. Sometimes you just have to move on..... Do you know any of the bosses to talk to? Maybe see what they have to say?
  23. By most standards places like Europe are the"best". Why do you think people sneak into Britain hiding beneath a lorry if our country wasn't better than theirs? Do you really think letting in migrants with no money/ education/ skills improves the life's of Brits? Why should brits be left on council house waiting lists when migrants skip the queue....
  24. But education levels are a fairly good indicator if an immigrant will make a positive contribution to the UK.... Angela Merkel has previously said that multiculturalism has "failed, utterly failed" in Germany. The truth is we just can't integrate some cultures. Sunni and Shia Muslims have been fighting each other for a thousand years, do you think they will live in peace with us?
