  1. My dad says when he started working life he would work Christmas Day... I think working conditions for people have got better over time and at each change employers would have complained that they couldn't afford it...

    My passion

Good thread! Does reloading your own save money?
  3. It looks about one and a half tonne bags. So 1,500kg.
  4. This stuff is the dog's bollocks. [ame] [/ame]
  5. Here's some of my team working some axe magic.
  6. I think if the OP posted his address WW3 would break out with local log sellers going mental after their product has been criticised.
  7. I have to admit, I would have thought that cabins would have increased the amount of tourism in the colder months and bring in wealthier tourists...
  8. Home Bargains sell verdo logs. tbh, I'd rather people buy them than imported logs... A ton is £279 and they are made in the UK.
  9. LOL, it wouldn't surprise me if we end up facebook friends and even exchange Christmas cards!
  10. tbh, I think the OP is a genuine frustrated log buyer. Normally when I get bad service from a business I cant be bothered complaining and I just don't go back. However, the OP has taken a fair bit of time to post his concerns about the UK firewood industry. Perhaps his post is an opportunity for log sellers to consider the log industry from the customers perspective....
  11. Respect to everyone that shared their stories of depression. I'm amazed at how many people here have suffered it. I sometimes feel that doing something for others gives me a "feel good" boost. I give blood and it always puts a spring in my step (it might just be perving at the nurses though).
  12. Hats off to the OP.
  13. Lol, has someone opened up a time portal to the 1990s? Duncan seems to be posting from the 1990s. Hi Duncan, I know back in the 1990s calling someone a "racist" was an amazing argument that was guaranteed to win any debate on migration. But in 2017 it's a poor argument that makes you look a bit stupid. Anyway, don't you worry about that Y2K computer bug! It was a big anti climax and nothing happened!
  14. A lot of the refugees (economic migrants) don't actually think they should be grateful to the Europeans for the help they've received in Europe. They think being allowed into Europe is a gift from Allah and they should thank him instead. 5 years ago you'd have been shot down in flames for saying something as racist as that.... It's good to see public opinion change... 100% correct. It's about time we left the rest of the world to sort their own problems. During WW2 you never had Europeans running away to the Middle East to claim asylum. In WW1 & WW2 you had kids pretend to be men to serve their countries. These migrant men pretend to be children to claim asylum. It's hard to have much respect for men that run away and leave Yazidi and Kurdish women to fight IS.
  15. Well maybe if you don't want to be accused of threatening to kill someone you shouldn't make forum posts that could be construed as a threat to kill? You follow me around this forum like a crazed Internet stalker calling me a "racist" and a "nazi". On post 718 of the "Trump Petition" you called me a "vile wee nazi", on post 710 of the same thread you were referring of me as a nazi and that "they should be stamped out like the runts they are". You were clearly threatening me Mark. Or does "stamp someone out like a runt" have a peaceful meaning? You've also accused me of having multiple accounts on arbtalk. What other arbtalk usernames do you think I post under? I bet you can't name any as you are talking nonsense. I've a question for you, on post 255 of this thread you were saying "people's liberties are at threat" because I was saying you threatened me. What did you mean by that? I can guess what you meant by that.....
  16. That looks an amazing garden! I'm well jealous! tbh, if you leave it up I think most people would consider it an eyesore and if you ever sold your house it would detract from the value. If your going to stay in the house "forever" I'd probable pollard it and plant a new one beside it. If your going to move in the future I'd cut it down completely and plant a new one. You could leave the trunk/branches in your back garden as a bug pile?
  17. About 2.6 million cars are sold in the UK each year. The UK only makes about 1.6 million cars a year. That means we have to import a net 1 million cars a year. If we trade under WTO rules it means imported cars become more expensive.... Is that not absolutedly brilliant for British car workers? I'd imagine Nissan are playing the "make vague threats to get grants game".
  18. Lol, sometimes you write things that are really smart and I agree with you. Then you write stuff like this ^ It's like two different people are posting using your log in details.
  19. The person that criticised the report was a Professor Emeritus of Statistics.... The report has been criticised by a lot of people... In 2003 Professor Dustmann produced a report that said East European migration would be 5,000 to 13,000 people a year. How wrong were his forecasts? Yet the BBC (and people like you) take everything he says as if he was the messiah. FFS, even taking the report at face value shows that overall EEA and non EEA migrants are a drain to the taxpayer. At this moment Goebbels and Hitler are high fiving each other laughing at how people like you are being fooled by propaganda.
  20. The report was discredited by a colleague of the authors at UCL.... The person that discredited it was a Professor Emeritus in statistics called Mervyn Stone. He said the report contained "schoolboy errors". So to sum up, a couple of academics produce reports that have previously been proved entirely wrong. They produce a report that "shows" immigration is good for the UK. This report is widely criticised by fellow academics and by anyone that looks at it that has half a brain. Yet the BBC and media use this report repeatedly to show that immigartion is good for the UK...
  21. Dustmann and Frattini are the same chancers that forecasted 13,000 East europeans would migrate to the UK each year.... The paper you refer to has been widely discredited...
  22. But the article in the Guardian says EEA migrants make a tiny net contribution to the taxpayer? Is that the point you're making? The article says that EEA migrants make a net contribution of £2 billion a year. We spend about £120 billion a year on the NHS and £240 billion on welfare benefits. Surely in the context of running the NHS and welfare state £2 billion a year is nothing? Then of course the research does not include the cost of brits losing their jobs to migrants... So this idea that we need migrants to pay our pensions is at best misleading...
  23. Yes I will trash it because the report is trash.... The report claims EEA migrants have contributed £25 billion more in tax than they paid in over 13 years. If we take that at face value what does it actually mean to the average Brit? It means EEA migrants have contributed a net £2 billion a year to the taxpayer. There are 60 million brits in the UK. That means each Brit gets another £30 a year from the contribution EEA migrants make... That's about 60 pence a week... So the marvellous contribution EEA migrants make to the average Brit is the price of a Mars bar each week... However the report doesn't include some of the costs that the EEA migrants will cost us. It doesn't include the cost of reduced wages of Brits, it doesn't include the Brits that lose their jobs to migrants, it doesn't include the cost of congestion, it doesn't include the cost of additional prison places, it doesn't include the umpteen other costs that an enlarged population costs the taxpayer. That report also said that non EU migration had cost the taxpayer £90 billion in the same period. Why did you fail to mention that?
  24. Compared to Delhi in the summer Shimla was heaven... I don't know how people could live in these place before air con.
  25. I went there with the intention of staying 6 months, however I came home after a month. Tbh, I just felt it too full on and got pissed off at the number of people trying to sell me stuff or asking for money. The beggars are a real eye opener, I remember seeing this guy with half an arm. Half of his arm bone was just sticking out the stub of his arm I went to Delhi, Dharamsala and saw a hill town called Shimla. I have to admit staying in Shimla and waking up each day to see the Himalayas was brill I'd go back as part of an organised tour. I quite fancy going to Goa and maybe Jaipur and where they burn the bodies on the Ganges. PS it was Bombay when my family where there.
