  1. I work on large construction projects. They can take years to design and then put out to tender.... It's not simply a case of going down to B&Q to get some fencing panels. LOL, if Killery had won the Yanks would have dragged us into another war in the Middle East. Trump seems content dropping massive bombs everywhere
  2. I agree with that. It boils my p1ss how the likes of google and facebook pay very little tax in the UK. At least spending £5.5 billion on submarines gives British people a skilled job. I'd much rather the Government spends money on submarines than give it to people to watch daytime telly. Tbh, I think austerity is here to stay.. we've simple let too many people into the country with little to offer... the Government spending cake has to get cut into smaller slices to allow for them all...
  3. Jeremy is a left wing lunatic that would mess up the country if he ever got into power. Luckily Labour seem content to be in permanent opposition and they're unlikely to form a Government for decades. ? If the Government aren't raising enough in tax that have to make cutbacks. Austerity isn't really a choice. It's a bit like your boss cuts your hours at work and you have to cancel the Sky telly and takeaway meals.
  4. Are you seriously saying that migration doesn't put a strain on public services? We've all been to hospital waiting rooms and seen the number of migrants waiting for treatment. We all know someone that has kids in a school where 15 different languages are spoken. "Simple minded"? We have net immigration of 300,000 a year. Only someone "simple minded" would think that amount of immigration doesn't put pressure on the NHS and schools. What gets me with immigration is that most public services are getting cut back. Yet then magically we have billions of pounds available to look after migrants... The main job of politicians is to look after their electorate. However many of them seem to prefer looking after migrants rather than Brits...
  5. How much do you sell softwood for compared to hardwood? I think most people here would prefer people burnt UK produced softwood opposed to european hardwoods.
  6. I wasn't aware that you even presented an argument? With respect the left wing of politics don't really have any arguments... The political discourse regarding immigration has been like this over the last 40 years: Left Wing: Let's invite lots of third world migrants into Europe so we can feel really good about ourselves. We can all hold hands round the campfire and sing kumbaya. We'll be able to tell one another "diversity is strength". Right Wing: Most of these third world migrants don't really have anything to offer Europe. Many of them don't even speak English. They aren't well educated and are likely to be a drain to the taxpayer. They also come from cultures that hate homosexuals and consider women as second class, they just wont fit into our societies. Many of them also fundamentally hate secular democracies, they will commit terrorist attacks against us. Left Wing: Racist!!! Right Wing: ??? And that's why the right wing are gaining power throughout the West.
  7. What I find sad is that you think saying "fake news" is some kind of argument against what was said in the video. The video raised some good points.... It's the BBC news that offers "fake news". Whenever there is a terrorist attack the BBC always make sure there are obvious looking migrants in the background of any interview. Then the BBC goes back to the studio and has an article about the dangers of the "political right wing" taking advantage of these attacks. The "right wing" have been warning Europe for decades that some cultures just don't belong in Europe. The "right wing" have been warning Europeans for decades that allowing Muslims into Europe would lead to terrorism. The "right wing" have been proved right.... It's time we actually listened to what the "right wing" had to say.
  8. I don't accept that food prices would go up. Places like Africa are good for growing fruit. New Zealand is good for meat production. It's easy enough to can/ freeze food in these places and import it... There is a real problem with obesity in the UK. If food prices went up I think there would be health benefits.
  9. Farm subsidies are for the benefit of farmers. It's dishonest for farmers to claim subsidies are for the benefit of consumers...
  10. My suggestion is to end all agricultural subsidies. I bet you don't consider that a "meaningful suggestion" as farmers are addicted to subsidies. FFS, the amount of food programmes on the TV is unreal. People love finding niche cheese/ bread/ meat retailers etc. The food industry has masses of engaged consumers. What do you want consumers to do? Drive to the nearest farm and provide free labour?
  11. No one is saying to plant every farm with Sitka. However the truth of the matter is that hill/ sheep farming just isn't economic in the UK. I'd rather we planted native woodlands and some commercial forests. Forestry soaks up carbon dioxide and reduces flooding.... something that sheep farming doesn't do. Native woods also bring back masses of wildlife. Perhaps you could expand on why you think hill farming is "environmentally friendly"? When I look at my neighbours land that is covered in sheep it has no trees, little vegetation and erosion problems.... my dad's forestry seems considerable better for the environment.... Awesome argument. Anyone against farming subsidies is just "jealous". You should become a politician with "knock out" arguments like that.
  12. I blame the vested interests that lobby to gain agricultural subsidies. Agricultural subsidies are there to help farmers. I resent having farmers help themselves to the contents of my wallet and telling me its for my own good.
  13. Ohhh, hang on a minute. I've realised there are too many plumbers in your area. How about the Government buys your van and trailer off you for £80k and you retire for a bit? You then claim a grant for a new van in a couple of years?
  14. I went to an explosives course. The explosive world expert taking the course said that modern explosives used in civil engineering deteriorated quite quickly. Civil engineering explosives lose something like 10% of their kick every week. OK the explosives in WW2 ordinance will be a different type. However I'd imagine after 70 years in the ground a lot of them no longer have any real explosive power left.
  15. You do an essential public service. As you're self employed it's not fair that you don't know how much you will earn week to week. You should ask the Government for a guaranteed minimum income of £1000 a week.
  16. 15,000 pieces of ordinance were found in a 2 year period in the UK. Has anyone heard of many deaths in the UK due to unexploded ordinance? "Most WW2 bombs stumbled across in the 21st Century are discovered by builders digging foundations. A guide on dealing with unexploded devices was released by the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) in 2009. An estimated 15,000 items, ranging from unexploded bombs to small mortar rounds and grenades, were removed from UK construction sites between 2006 and 2008, the association said." "The bombs are unlikely to explode, Mr Brosnan said, but their threat should not be underestimated." How much of a threat are unexploded bombs? - BBC News
  17. I did.... In France 900 tonnes of WW2 bombs are recovered a year. Since we don't hear about many French getting killed by WW2 bombs it seems fair to say that most of the bombs are "safe".
  18. You're obviously making the point that we need food to survive. However there is no reason that we need to grow it all ourselves... Like it or not most farming jobs pay absolutely rubbish money and offer poor working conditions. How many people does the average farm employ? Maybe a farmer and a tractor driver? How much will the tractor driver earn? £7 an hour? I'd consider construction/ car manufacturing/ oil extraction/ banking/ insurance/ pharmaceuticals etc as far more important industries than farming as they employ more people and provide better paid jobs.
  19. Why should the taxpayer prop up farmers that can't make a profit by themselves? A lot of poor quality farmland should be planted in trees imho. The reason that it's not planted with trees is because farmers get so much in subsidies to keep sheep etc. What's a "fair price"? £300 for a lamb and £20 an egg? Sorry if a farmer isn't happy that he doesn't know how much he can sell his product for he should leave the industry. For thousands of years farmers never knew how much they would be able to sell their good for. If they want security they could maybe consider a nice office job with a salary?
  20. Why do you think farming is the most important industry? It's easy enough to import food....
  21. Britain isn't self sufficient on a lot of things. Why should farming get subsidies while other industries also struggle?
  22. I have to admit the argument that farm subsidies are good because they help consumers is bizarre. You really think giving some Duke millions a year is the best way to help people get food? Why not just give consumers the money instead so they can buy food? Farm subsidies are like Robin Hood in reverse. Millions of poor people pay tax so that rich people get money.
  23. Perhaps you could stop insulting others? You're the one that's been telling everyone that old ordinance is dangerous.... after moving the ordinance yourself for no reason... If you really thought the shells were dangerous you'd have left them in place for the bomb disposal team to dispose of. To clarify I think old ordinance should be treated with respect and left for the proper authorities to deal with. However I don't think a bomb etc buried in soil for 70 years is likely to have much explosive charge...
  24. Since the Gendarmerie haven't done anything about the shells maybe it means they don't think them that dangerous? In Europe they collect tens of thousands of pieces WW2 ordinance each year. I bet farmers disturb hundreds of thousands of pieces of ordinance each year while ploughing fields etc. Since we very rarely hear about WW2 ordinance exploding it seems fair to say that they are relatively inert....
  25. That looks a reasonable size fire to me. How big is your garden?
